Bath panel with storage

Does anyone have a decent panel which slides allowing storage under bath. I've seen a particular one, but my mil has it and because it made from some sort of wood, prob mdf, it has rotted and become swollen due to the water. So I don't want that if it's going to look horrible after a few months. Is there a plastic equivalent??

Why is it when I post in the relevant section. I get zero response lol

Well it’s a very specialist question. I don’t know a single person with this. I think it makes the side of the Bath look messy and not streamlined. I would avoid. It shouldn’t get wet though unless there is a leak. I prefer wall storage and would always prefer that over floor level drawers. So I cannot help you but they don’t appeal and I’ve never seen them in any bath magazine or store. So I guess few people have them.

ruby4ever · 26/11/2020 18:14

I don't think you know what am referring to. Because they don't make the bath side look messy. As it's closed. My whole bathroom is tiled including under the bath tub, so seems abit of a waste to leave it as dead space.

How do you access the storage then? Surely the space is under the bath at either end?

I’m happy to make no further comment. However I have 5 baths in fully tiled bathrooms in houses I own and all have wall storage. Larger Cupboards with shelves or over sink storage. So many better options in my view. Hope you get more replies that meet your requirements.

there's not actually a huge amount of room. I have a few boxes of spare tiles under my bath, and a spare bath wate and mixer tap.

The opening panels I have seen would allow you to put a pacl of loo rolls, bottle of cleaner, spare shampoo perhaps. It may be dusty or sometimes damp under there. There may be spiders.

An MDF panel should be OK because it should be raised slightly off the floor, and tucked under the rim of the bath to protect from drips.

An ordinart MDF path panel costs upwards of £50

I haven't seen the sliding type recently.

The thin plastic ones usually supplied with baths cost around the same but are complete rubbish and easily crack.

There are [[https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2057872.m570.l1313&_nkw=bath+panel+storage&_sacat=0 some on ebay, probably made up by someone who likes woodwork. Perhaps a local carpenter/joiner could make some.

PigletJohn · 26/11/2020 18:37

I mean

There are some on ebay

Anyway @ruby4ever there are a few options online - I think the sliding ones generally look better than the hinged ones

There are quite a few online but most are mdf- as a PP said they shouldn't swell (especially if coated)

Our builder has recommended the same ones as PigletJohn linked above, we are waiting for our order to arrive. Will just be useful for cleaning products, plunger, etc. Keep them out of DC’s sight.

PigletJohn · 26/11/2020 19:24

I didn't see the Croydex one, but Plumbworld are usually good value.

That one looks to me a better buy than the pine ones. But measure very carefully before ordering.

PresentingPercy · 26/11/2020 19:52

I actually said NO further comment!

ruby4ever · 27/11/2020 20:55

Thank you @PigletJohn @Veterinari
@BlenheimOrange yes that's exactly what I'll be using it for too, out of sight from the children.

@PresentingPercy Thanks for letting me know you have 5 fully tiled bathrooms, how that's relevant to my post, I will never know. Not everyone's bathroom is the same, and just because you think wall storage is better doesn't mean it is and it's not what everyone wants, maybe it's not practical for my bathroom? I don't know if I should feel privileged that you commented 🤔 it was rather a odd thing to say.

Oh wow! I didnt know this existed! How very exciting!

(And of course there will be water without leaks in a bathroom! It's a room of water! Who knew one could get so worked up and righteous as to No Further Comment? Hilarious!)

NotMeNoNo · 28/11/2020 08:03

In our previous house there was a panel with three framed sections one of which popped out on magnetic catches. The carpenter had made it from pine and it was painted. It was a bit dusty under there but useful for bits and bobs.
Actual wood should not rot if edges are sealed.
It was great but baffling for visitors needing a new loo roll as completely concealed.
