Hi

We have an old tank, gravity fed system. We are being quoted £3160 Inc VAT. He is recommending Vallient. Does this sound okay?

Hi I have just had an old back boiler system replaced with a Worcester Bosch combo boiler and it cost £3000, I had two radiators replaced within this price

WhispersAnonymous · 26/11/2020 15:49

I am shocked, we are purchasing a property and got a quote for a new boiler plus 12 rads and this came to £4200.

Oddbutnotodd · 26/11/2020 15:53

Yes probably boilers are expensive

Rainbowshine · 26/11/2020 15:56

Yes sounds about right, check it includes the flushing of the system too

HarleyQuinn33 · 26/11/2020 16:31

Hi, it does include flushing and vat. Do expensive. My dad says he paid alot less for his combi but that was years ago so I assume things have gotten more expensive. Ouch for us. Thanks for the responses.

Are combi's okay for a small family? The heating engineer recommended an invented cylinder but that was even more expensive ..

We've just paid £3k for a new boiler + vented cylinder. It's a Baxi system boiler and a Joule cylinder. We didn't have new rads, but did have quite a bit of new pipe work. We've got a 4 bed house.

I found the Baxi website really helpful for working out what we needed and they recommend local fitters.

Okki · 26/11/2020 16:47

We have had combi boilers in previous house and that was fine for us as a family. Certainly takes up a lot less space!!!

This seems astonishingly cheap.

In 2018 I paid £ 2,400 for a new boiler, all new plumbing and 7 radiators. That included coring through the external wall at height.

And that was a good deal.

SunnyUpNorth · 26/11/2020 16:59

I think that’s seems very expensive. It’s not British Gas is it? They’re super expensive.

We paid about £2k for the biggest residential Worcester Bosch boiler two years ago. It’s brilliant. Definitely get more quotes.

Lilac95 · 26/11/2020 17:00

I’ve been pricing up new combi boilers recently, the boiler itself is around £1500 to £2000 for a worcester or valiant boiler. Getting quotes of just around £2200 for installing and a boiler with local engineers. £3k+ when looking at higher firms so perhaps shop about for quotes. Combis are perfectly fine for most homes you just have to pick the right capacity so it’ll go on your bedroom and bathroom numbers. We’re a 3 bed 1 bath terrace.

Lilac95 · 26/11/2020 17:03

2 quotes from last week. Places like British Gas, sse and corgi wanted £3.5k for the same thing

About right.
I would look at Worc Bosch as well, they have very good warranties and back up.
Get three prices too.

@HarleyQuinn33 . It doesn't sound rip off territory as he is VAT registered .

You could cut the cost if you found a plumber who isn't VAT registered as given the boiler will be circa £1200, you could save 20% vat on the remainder , ie £360

MrsPworkingmummy · 27/11/2020 05:56

We live in a large 6 bed 3 story end terraced. We've just had a Worster Bosch compact 36cdi installed, along with a flush, filter, pipework and nest controls for £3600. That includes a 10 year guarantee and a free service. I thought it was expensive.

MarieG10 · 27/11/2020 06:10

@Lilac95

A top end Worcester boiler, 30k heat output is circa £1400 with the flue kit included. Your plumber won't pay that.

The rest is dependent on work. For example I need to replace mine but the system is well maintained with a magnetic filter, external pressure vessels, topped up every year with inhibitor and whenever we decorate the radiators are dropped and fully flushed out. As a result our system has very little sediment. Some others are not as well maintained and require a full system flush out which in reality if done properly means all the radiators individually flushed out using a pressure device. If adding in other work then it adds up. Other work often includes pipes to a design point if there isn't an existing condensing boiler

I'm hoping to have mine done for cost of boiler plus £500 installation max as is a days work

You would still pay the same price - it’s just that he wouldn’t split the VAT out

Combi boilers are cheaper than traditional boilers with hot tanks, but they don’t last as long. Problem with combi boilers is water pressure isn’t as good and pressure will go down when kitchen tap is on and someone has a shower. You really don’t need to pay extra for a power flush. My brother has recently had a new combi boiler installed which replaced another combi, so not a lot of pipework needed, he paid £1,600. Boiler was £1,200 and £400 labour. All done in a day.
