Ring doorbell - which gen?

I can't see any much difference between gen 1 and 2 Ring doorbells apart from the fact that the earlier ones are much cheaper. Does anyone know if the later ones are worth the extra? Looking to buy one on Black Friday if that helps.

I think its something to do with being able to take the battery out to recharge the Gen2 without having to take the whole thing down? I may be wrong though but I'm looking to buy a Gen 2 as well

Go for 2. It has better video resolution and, as pp said, you can simply remove the battery and recharge. With gen 1 you have to remove the whole thing to recharge I understand.

Do check that your WiFi signal is strong enough outside the house. Ours is pretty good throughout, well I thought it was until I got a Ring doorbell.

Ended up with a WiFi extender and even that had to be moved around a bit until we got the signal strong enough outside for reasonable response to pressing the ring door bell. Sigh

Thanks
Does that mean the 1 can be disabled by someone outside?

Look at the Eufy doorbells, they review brilliantly and you don't have the security issues with cloud storage or the cost of monthly subscription.

I’ve got the 2nd gen one (the one that’s £59 on Amazon at the minute) and I’ve had no problems at all with it. Fab little thing.

I don’t know what the 2nd gen has improved but we’ve found the 1st gen to be really good. I agree that it is super annoying to. unscrew it every time to charge it but TBH we now just pop it in and out without screwing. You can’t tell from looking that it’s not screwed on. You are right that someone could disable it or take it though. I suspect the 2nd gen could be broken too — they are largely plastic. We live in London Zone 2 and in four years it’s never been a problem but if someone ever breaks it or takes it we will worry about it then. It’s not like there is private info on it.
