‘Missed’ payment- what chances have I got with remortgaging?

I am due to remortgage in a couple of weeks. My credit report shows a missed payment from last month from a utility provider however the bill was paid in full. I’m not entirely sure what has gone off, but the missed payment is showing against a previous address I lived at 4 years ago. The bill is definitely for my current address and from last month (amount matches) but it turns out the utility company have my old address as the forwarding address. I’m not sure why this would result in such an error on my credit report.

I have never noticed the address as my correspondence is usually via email, my online account details show my current address, no details of a forwarding address. I have an email from 2016, confirming when I moved.

I’m not hopeful that this is going to be resolved any time soon as the utility company seem to be very ‘computer says no’.

I have to wait 6-8 weeks to raise a case with the credit agency apparently, and have no idea how long it takes to resolve this type of thingSad The bill amount is £55 if that makes a difference at all.

Have I got any hopes of remortgaging still? I am obviously going to speak to mortgage advisor about it but until I can do that, I am going to be worrying far too much and arguing with the utility company in my head!

What’s the utility company saying? Was there a missed payment, why is this payment different to previous months?
Thames water issued a missed payment on my acc when an issue was being investigated- I escalated it and had them remove it from my credit report- also had them put it in writing that it was their error in case I ever needed proof

Each mortgage provider will have their own model for assessing credit risk so what might be a problem for one, won't necessarily be for another. Your best best is to see a financial advisor/mortgage broker who'll can look at a wide selection for you.

They just kept repeating that I was late paying, but couldn’t explain how as I had clearly paid it. I had no contact from them prior to paying, bar the usual reminder. My account says ‘all up to date’. When we got onto the subject of my old address, they then just said I needed to raise a case with the credit agency.

I honestly have no idea why this bill is any different to be honest. I just wasn’t getting anywhere with the person I spoke to, maybe I will have better luck speaking to another advisor

Try getting in touch with utility co using this service - I’ve had faster responses than contacting them directly myself - www.resolver.co.uk/
