I have a metal windowsill, that is horribly noisy when it's raining. Im not sure how to make it quieter, apart from either putting a cover over the top of the window.

Ah, I see it. for some reason the short flat roof does not seem to have anything to collect rainwater running or blowing off the edge.

It's possible that it has been formed into a tray out of sight but I don't see any way for water to get into the hopper. Perhaps there should be a hole or cutout. Or maybe it has a slope that has been choked with leaves.

A short piece of guttering into the hopper may do the trick.
If the hopper is on your neighbour's side of the boundary, try to get their consent. If the hopper is on the boundary, and half on your side. I don't think it's needed, but you may as well tell them.

If you get someone in, try to get get them to take some photos up there showing how it has been built. It looks quite curious.

I can't enlarge it enough to see how the next-door gutter has been finished. Presumably it has a downward spigot, not just an open end.

I don't understand why it was built that way.

Could you make it into some sort of living roof?

You can buy ready made living roof sheets, like a roll of turf, full of different types of sedums.

Obviously you'd have to look into whether it's suitable for your roof, but I would have thought it would dampen the noise (see what I did there Wink) & look pretty awesome too!

Oh I thought you were talking about the porch roof bit - nevermind me 🙈
