North facing garden

Hi everyone! Does anyone have north facing gardens and can help me out with how much sun they get? Our new place has a N facing garden but not over looked on the West hand side at all. I'm hoping it gets afternoon sun in the summer!

I think if it's long enough you should get some sun. There is an app that will tell you if you put the address in but, sorry, I can't remember the name of it!

I have a 130ft North facing garden, not overlooked and the house is a cottage, so not very tall.
There is sun in some part all day long, ( if it’s sunny of course).
The trick is to be mindful of the type of plants that grow in different conditions. The back of the garden faces South, so most things grow well. Some plants don’t like morning sun, so plant them in the afternoon sun, some plants like partial shade, so note where the shaded areas are.
I have roses that don’t mind shade growing on the North wall of the house. I also make use of planters to move flowering plants around to dull spots.

Ours is 40 feet long and gets no sun in the winter but is fine in the summer. Depends how tall your house is though. Ours was better until we had dormer windows put in.

You can get sun from the sides or at the end of the garden. It’s more about the rooms at the back of the house not having direct sunlight. Depending on the house, you have E or W facing windows into the rooms or Veluxes.

Our garden is around 12 metres long and north facing. We get more than enough in the summer, and enough shade as well, especially when the kids have their paddling pool out. I wouldn't hesitate in buying a house with a north facing garden again, in fact if I bought a south facing one I'd be worried about getting enough shade.

Ours doesn’t get much sun at this time of year, but it’s great in summer. We don’t have loads of overhanging trees which helps, and it is high ground. I prefer it to an east facing garden I had.
