Kitchen extractors

I’m putting a hob on my island and I’m looking for counter top extractor.

I was looking at the kind that sits flush to the worktop and rises up, so it doubles as a sort of splashback (there will be a breakfast bar on the other side of the island) but when I’ve enquired about them in kitchen shops, that have these units on display, I’ve been firmly steered away and towards the in-hob kind of extractor. This has happened twice now.

One of the reasons I’m not keen on the in-hob extractors is that I don’t think I could fit my enormous Christmas ham pot on it. I know it’s only a once a year thing, but it is a function I do need once a year. The last salesperson assured me I could just put the pot partially on top of the extractor but I’m a little dubious about that.

Has anyone any experience of either of these types of extractor? I’d really appreciate hearing actual experience rather than sales pitches!

I've not got one, but a I have heard people say the riser ones aren't very good at extracting. But, I've not got one so don't know for sure. Maybe google and see if there are any reviews on them. Good housekeeping might be a good place to look.

How big is the room? If large enough you migt not need one at all, our kitchen is about 5x7 and have never needed the extractor on

Thank you both. Smile
