Does anyone live in Malton?
Is it appropriate for a young family?
Could you advise where to buy for a young family and where to avoid?
What's the public transport like there as I don't drive due to health reasons but need to be able to get about.
Thanks!

Malton is great for families. Great for anyone really, as it's a lovely town.

Avoid the low bits by the river - floods regularly. My own preference is Malton not Norton, but Norton is cheaper (the river is the boundary, but they do kind of merge as you can easily walk between the two).

Transport depends on your direction of travel. Good links to York/Leeds and Malton via train and also regular buses, ditto Scarborough, but harder to travel northwards without a car. There are buses, just not hugely regular.

In Malton everything you need is walkable - it's small.

With lovely individual shops, especially in the market square.

Quite a lot going on. Annual Food Festival and regular Food markets, a family owned cinema and lots on independent restaurants, cafe’s etc.

A good mix demographically, very friendly people and beautiful surrounding countryside. Also a good mix of new / old properties.

Willowgreen is a great Estate Agent (I don’t work for them) They will help you work out the right areas to buy, but I agree with Larach to be careful about the river flood plain.

Florian Poirot's macaroons!
Malton housing estates are walking distance of the town centre, and the station is not far from there. It's a pretty compact genuine (quite feudal) market town with a foodie focus.
On the Malton side of the river there are a couple of primaries, and a big one on the Norton side as well as the secondary. Lots of kids get the train to York for college or even secondary (All Saints) - it's really quick and easy.
