Nice areas on the outskirts of London?

We moved from London (Camden) to the Midlands a few years ago to be close to my husband’s work. It was quite the change of pace and we really missed our London life (friends, restaurants, theatre, bustle). Fast forward to 2020 and our circumstances have changed in that we can work from home and aren’t tied to our current city anymore. So we want to move back!

We have a 5yo son so we don’t want to move right into the city (plus we’d only be able to afford a shoebox in zones 1-3) but are looking for something on the outskirts of London but with good transport links into London. We’re on the hunt for a house with a garden and off-street parking, with proximity to good schools. I’m not fussed about ‘Outstanding’ rated schools, but more keen on schools with a focus on inclusiveness and pastoral care. Our budget is approx £750K. Is my wish list reasonable, or am I asking for the moon on a stick? I'd be grateful for your suggestions. A friend suggested Ruislip, what’s it like?

A bit late to the post but this thread is so useful! Thanks for asking this question OP. We are looking to move ourselves and being first time buyers, completely confused about where in West London/outsode West London we can afford to buy. So all the suggestions here have been really helpful!

Update: We bought a house in Winchmore Hill in the end. And it ticked all the boxes, even the elusive garage Smile Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.

@Alwaysmoving2 why didn't you bother to read the OP's latest post?!

Winchmore Hill is a great spot. Well done and welcome back to London Smile

Have a look at West Norwood.
Excellent schools, Picturehouse cinema, The Feast , a monthly farmers / food/ craft / vintage market and festival. You might just get in with your budget minus off street parking.

Oops, sorry, missed the update!
Congratulations, enjoy your new home.

Winchmore Hill is lovely - congrats! Did you managed to find somewhere for your original 750k budget? I thought it would have been quite spenny, more so due to the inflated market.

Thanks all! @soon2besngle yes we did, closer to £700K but we will probably approach the £750K mark once we have an extension done and the garage rebuilt (my husband wants to use it for brewing!).
