Moving to Friday Hill - Chingford - any views?

Hi there,

We've found a house near Friday Hill Chingford, it's situated right next to the park (Hatch Forest) and also Whitehall Primary School.

Just wanted to ask what the area is like? We are looking for somewhere quiet, green and safe really.

We are moving from a rough area in East London, so don't want anymore of the same riff raff.

Any opinions would be great, thanks!

We are moving to Mansfield Hill so I’m also interested in hearing about the area and Chingford more generally.

North Chingford and Highams park are nice but Friday Hill is not as nice.

Thanks for the information! Do you have any reasons as to why?

We've driven through the area a couple of times and nothing stands out.

I thought Friday Hill is in North Chingford?

Just looking on there. Is it a council estate?

Wheaty51 · 18/11/2020 15:25

@JoJoSM2

Hmmm this is interesting; strange as the area looks really nice. I did see one estate, but the surrounding houses do look really nice.

I live down the road in Woodford Green, just 5 minutes drive. Where are you moving from? What exactly do you want to know about the area?

I think Friday hill is a left turn off chingford road...it goes downhill direction...from memory there is a huge council estate..all houses...look 1950' s I think..

See my post about Friday hill.. I think the estate extends there also...it's a big sprawl...no idea if it has bad reputation...join some chingford fb groups for ..opinions

Friday Hill is not that close to Chingford Station. That may not be important to you though.

Looks to be a 15/16 min walk which is not too bad. Considering the WFH trend now too.

Hmmm...still a bit puzzled by this area. It still looks lovely!

Friday Hill is definitely not desirable. Property will be much cheaper there than the roads around Chingford station which are lovely.

earsup · 19/11/2020 12:54

Having looked at a map of area now....yes Friday hill lots of council houses etc....a big sprawl.....Chingford station very nice area....my friends live next to the police station in north chingford....Drysdale avenue...next to the forest...that is a nice part ...15 min walk to shops etc...

Friday Hill area is ok but not great. Formerly completely council owned to my knowledge, now a mix. Depending which end of the hill you are looking at, you can walk to Chingford station in about 15/20 mins. It's not really North Chingford at all, that starts at the bottom of Friday Hill, Whitehall Road end. Friday Hill has a completely different demographic and 'feel' to the big Victorian houses near the golf course and forest, which typify North Chingford.

Almost all the crime that happens in this end of Chingford (as opposed to Chingford Mount or South Chingford, which are both fairly rough), happens around Friday Hill. North Chingford proper has the benefit of a whacking great police station in the middle of it, so crime round that part is quite low in comparison and also low for a London area.

Saying that, if your budget is around the 400k mark, you can get a fairly nice two bed ex-council with a decent garden around Friday Hill, and it's definitely safer than places like Ilford, Walthamstow, Leyton etc. Not much in terms of violent crime around Chingford certainly.

Mansfield Hill mentioned by a previous poster is much nicer, as are the forest roads off King's Head Hill, if you can't afford anything nearer to Station Road.

Best of luck with your search!

If I could sum it up, I'd say I'd walk around there with my toddler fairly happily during the day, but I wouldn't saunter around at night with my phone in my hand 🙂

Hi.

We are buying a house there (Bluehouse road) and we were driving there in the mornings, afternoons and nights. Never saw something suspicious. The area is next to the forest and really look lovely. We do have kids and we want to be safe. I think is changing a lot as many families are moving there. Lots of houses are sold very fast.

Onandoff · 22/05/2021 07:19

It’s fine. Post war council estate now mix owned and rented. I think it’s quiet and trouble free. The secondary school isn’t very good. Yes there are posher areas if your budget allows.
