How often did your completion date change?

We are still in early process of our purchase but our chain below wanted to complete before Christmas so we offered to break chain, then we got told they wanted completion for end of this month which I said fine to Not heard anything so chased solicitor on Friday, he’s been on leave and back today. We haven’t exchanged but wondering given buyers had more enquiries which were answered whether completion date might be delayed? Buyers did second viewing day before second lockdown which I found odd considering survey was done weeks before so wondering if using means to offer less.

Has your completion date chopped n changed? Honestly I’d rather wait to complete in new year or even mid December but DH doesn’t want buyer to pull out. Just not ready!

We didn't set a completion date until right before exchange both times we've moved, solicitors (different ones) wouldn't commit to a date, so I imagine it depends how far in advance you have tried to set the date, I think some solicitors go along with it but at the end of the day it's very hard to set too far in advance and they know that, especially at the moment, no one is held to a completion date until exchange has happened.

So our completion dates didn't change, but they were set with about 2 weeks notice.

Although we did have a "target" both times if I remember rightly, when we signed the initial paperwork, but it was never quoted again, it happened when it happened which in both cases was about a month after the "target".

I think the chain usually sets out any requests at the beginning but it doesn't very often stay on track. Completion dates are neither fixed or legally binding until exchange of contracts. Everything before that is just fingers in the air.
