Window fitting - plastic trims everywhere

We are having aluminium replacement windows fitted at the moment. All of the insides have plastic trim all around them as in this photo. Is this normal? I thought they would just run a bead of sealant. I think they are planning to run sealant in the gap between the trim and the wall.

In my experience it’s to hide any (hopefully little) damage to the plaster when the old windows were taken out.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if this is good practice or would better window companies repair the plaster?

That is standard - if you pay more you might get re-plastering.

Our window fitters did this, I think it's standard. We've carefully removed the trim and filled/refinished the walls around the windows ourselves.

Thanks both. That's interesting fugly. Can I ask you how easy was it to remove the trim and did you just use pollyfiller or something more specialist? What did you do where they joined the window sill?

I didn't see the windows go in so am not sure what state the walls are in and whether I am brave enough to remove it.

The trim was really easy to remove as it's attached using sealant, so we just slid a wallpaper stripping knife underneath to loosen it. You should be able to remove any bits of sealant left with a stripping knife too.

We've used polyfilla on the walls (a couple of bits needed the deep fill stuff) and wood filler on the sills. The most time consuming bit was sanding back the excess polyfilla to get a smooth finish (I'm a bit gung-ho with filler).
