Motion sensors question

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help.
Moving into a house that has an alarm and motion sensors. I want to remove one of the sensors, but not sure how to? If the sensor is easy to remove, would it be a bad idea to remove that and leave the wiring in-situ?

Thank you

Honestly, I would call the alarm company and ask them. Burglar alarms are not very happy about having sensors removed - for obvious reasons!

You don’t need to remove it. You’ll trigger the tamper alarm if you mess with it. There’ll be a setting with which you can disable the specific sensor - ie only set specific areas.

You just walk test the alarm, it is in the instruction book (you can google the model number if the owner doesn't have it) find out which sensor is which zone on the keypad. It is easier with 2 people, one stands at the keypad the other person triggers the sensors. Don't forget that doors sometimes have sensors too, mine are hidden within the frame so you wouldn't know to look at them as they are not surface mounted.

Then you simply put in the alarm code and depending on the model press omit then the zone number (the sensor you want off) and then press set. Hardly rocket science. If you try to remove a sensor yourself it will trigger the alarm as a tamper.

Out of curiosity which sensor do you want removed? And why?

If it is the landing, then there will be a "full set" and "part set" on the keypad. Full set is all sensors alarmed but you will have an "entry" point so you can open the front door and the hall sensing you entering and starts beeping rather than setting the alarm off.

A part set is where the system will disable whichever sensor/sensors you want off, so for us the landing as we put it on at night so all downstairs is alarmed. Part set and full set sound different when you set them.

@minipie thank you, I wasn’t sure if there was such a thing as switching a sensor off to remove if needed (embarrassingly I’m a complete novice when it comes to alarms ). However, I’ve realised it’s not as simple as that (should have spent a little longer googling 😂)

Thank you @Toodeloo (I’ve managed to work out how to do that now!)

@OnTheBenchOfDoom thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the previous owners didn’t leave a manual, but I suspect the alarm was fitted some times ago (Veritas). I have managed to find the manual online- didn’t think I’d that Blush

Feel quite embarrassed with my very silly question (after doing some extensive research on alarms 🥴)

Thank you for all the help! Smile

Never feel embarrassed about something you don't know! It isn't stupidity, it is simply lack of knowledge which you sort to remedy. And we are all learning new stuff all the time.

We had a garage conversion so the sensor in there was literally hanging down from its wire during the build so we had to omit that zone every time we set it for night or for going out. Hence knowing a lot about the alarm.

We also have a Texecom Veritas, it is a very popular. I am glad you managed to find the manual online.
