Dark skirting boards/door frames? Redecorating dilemmas....

We are going to redecorate the master bedroom in our house. The old owners had painted it in an unsightly red/yellow combo (terrible McDonald's vibes), photo attached. I am thinking of using Dulux Just Walnut for the walls, but I don't know what to do with the wardrobe door frames and the skirting boards. DH says a deep brown would be nice (Dulux Saddle brown), but I am worried this might be too heavy for the room. On the other hand, white skirting boards are everywhere! Hmm What do you think?

I would go white.
The last owners here, bizarrely, painted the bathroom door frame brown. Now I’ve stripped and painted the woodwork white I can’t stop looking at it and thinking how lovely it looks.

All the woodwork in my house is a stained walnut colour, except the dining room which the 1st owners painted white.
I like it, but don't think I'd like a brown paint in the same way.

I reckon natural wood finishes or white are the way to go in a modernish house.

White all the way.

I can highly recommend doing everything the same colour. Get a satin gloss mixed up in a colour match. Do the woodwork, coving etc the same as the walls. You lose all the edges. I just did this in my kitchen and it made the room feel huge!

I’d do the wardrobes the same colour as the wall. That will blend them in.

Doing a strong, contrasting colour will make them stand out and they aren’t exactly a feature. Just like now, the first thing your eye goes to is the frame around them.

The problem is with a coloured skirting board is that they have to stop somewhere or be adjacent to a diff coloured one

We’ve got dark ones flowing from the kitchen but then with architraves and doors and other rooms there’s sort of no logical place for them to stop. I wouldn’t do it again
