Is there a clear rule re travelling to another town to viewings?

I'm looking to buy in another town 30min away by train.
Need to buy ASAP as my sale is progressing.
I was a bit worried about lockdown, but property market is open officially.
Well I was questioned today by the ticket office (ticket machine wasn't working) about my reasons, explained that I'm buying a house there, and she was all unfriendly and telling me that I'm not supposed to trael unless it's essential. Well it is essential as I will have nowhere to go in two month unless I buy.
She did huffily sell me the ticket but said I may be questioned by transport police.
The problem is, I couldn't find it clearly stated in guisance whether you aer allowed to travel in order to buy. And if not by train, aer you allowed by car? I don't haev a car currently so could only go by taxi which will be £££.
I wasn't questioned anywhere on trains or stations today, but my next viewing is on Saturday and that no doubt will have checks as not many aer going to work.
Anyone knows for sure? TIA

I presume they have to count it as essential travel, seeing as they haven't temporarily halted the property market. Lots of people, especially tenants, are priced out of their areas when moving - so the need to travel to view in other areas is less a choice but more essential (to avoid being homeless - which is a public health risk).

I’m considering buying something a long way from home. There’s no way I’m buying without viewing.

Yes, this is explicitly allowed. Section 6g(2)

Sorry, I misread. Section 6g(v). It's still explicitly allowed though.

Sheep well that's what i think, but the ticket person was not seeing it as essential, i.e. not work / medical reason. I really don't watn to be having a debate every time / disapproving attitude, and feeling like it's not essential enough!

17th thank you - I do know that viewings aer allowed, but I was hoping it would mention travel rather than just 'leaving your home' i.e. going out. She was saying I'm not supposed to travel by trains to do it, not that cars wuld be different in this case as when it was spring lockdown, cars wre stopped - so I don't think it's the mode of transport that matters, but the distance / different town?
I did ask her how else can yo move into a diff town but she was huffy about it.

Cars being stopped. Are you in Wales OP?

I'm not sure of the rules there.
If the property market is still open, I'd assume the same as for England?

CatAndHisKit · 05/11/2020 21:27

I'm not in Wales, I was saying there that carrs were being stopped in spring lockdown, in England when traevlling to tourist spots, for example. Not now. But if she was challenging my train travel, then I assume car travel not approved of either, from town to town.
I just don't know if this was this worker in particular being unreasonable, or should I dread being stopped / questioned by transport police (as she suggested).

If the trains are running and you are travelling for a permitted purpose then I would have thought by definition you can use the train OP.

thanks, TooMany, maybe I should be more assertive - today felt a school girl being told off.
