Cold at night

Praying for PigletJohn here!

Last year we had a new boiler which the plumber insisted was the right size for the house. A Worcester 8000 system life 30kw. It was over £2300 including fitting.

Im finding that even if I leave the heating on a night it's always freezing in the morning-13 degrees in my room this morning. That wasn't the case with my old boiler. The plumber has been back twice and charged each time, but insists it's all fine. Apparently the room thermostat in the hall also works, and the radiator valve thermostat is fine too. The radiator works in the evening. So I'm mystified.

What can I do to heat one room at night (to 18 degrees) in this context? I have a serious respiratory condition so that's important for me.

Thank you.

Get a bigger radiator? Check the heating thermostat. Is it accurate? Is it set to 18 degrees and is it accurate? Set it higher? What is your water temp like? Set the heating to come on earlier?

Where is the thermostat?
How many time settings does it have each day?
What time/temperature settings have you put into it?
What temperature is it set to at night?
Do you have thermostatic valves on all of the radiators?

Not being funny but is the controller set to switch on when you want it to? If it's not set to come on overnight then it won't... System seems to work so that's all I can think of!
That plumber has a bit of a cheek charging you to check over his own work though!

Do you have doors open to allow heat to circulate away from the thermostat, if the heat builds up to 18 at the thermostat in the hall it will turn off without your bedroom being warm enough for you

As your boiler is more than big enough, I expect it is either your controls; or poor insulation and draughts in the bedroom.

Get a thermometer and (when you wake up in the middle of the night) check the temperature in your bedroom and in the living room where you keep your room thermostat.

If the bedroom is colder, then it is due to faster heat loss in the bedroom. This is more common in badly-insulated loft conversions, but can happen in some older houses.

If the bedroom and living room are equally cold, then it will be the controls. Perhaps you have a programmable thermostat that turns the temperature down at night for economy. Perhaps there is a timer set to turn the heat off at night.

Perhaps the radiator in your bedroom is too small and the system is not well-balanced.

Post photos of your controls, please, including the thermostatic radiator valves (if fitted)

Thank you all for your time and effort. In the end a plumber did call round and diagnosed a faulty zone valve. All fixed now.

are you expecting to a plumber to turn up to every one felling cold and lonely Smile and doesn't get paid. if they found a fault for their work then it's well and good. however, call out charge and checking the system will cost. I'm not a plumber!!
