Can anyone help why my house isn't selling

Hello all, we've been on the market for nearly 3 months, house still hasn't sold. We're getting quite regular viewings but I don't know if we should be getting more. So we're getting 2/3 viewings a week. Always get the same comment on garden being awkward shape but they love the house. Obviously they don't love the house enough to overcome the garden shape. Which I will admit the garden isn't the biggest. If I sent the rightmove link to some people would they be willing to view the listing and let me know if they can think of any improvements we can make? All we get told by the agent is its not the price as getting viewings we just need to find the right buyer 🙁 but that feels like a long process!

Just looking now and will send you a long message

Can I have a link? Happy to help. I’m quite good with gardens.

Thanks for link. I went to school in the town where you live! I still live quite close.

Your garden is very plain and I think you need to try and landscape it a bit. The fences are lowish and look like the cheaper ones builders put in. As a quick improvement I would dig a couple of beds to soften the very hard edges. Yes, the garden is a blank canvas, but it’s uninviting. You have a great garden centre just out of town - I know it well. See if you can buy some tall grasses and shrubs to make it look a bit more attractive.

Your side gate is in a horrible position. It would have been better where your huge shed is. Do you have a garage? That might also be an issue.

The path beside the house is awful. Do you bump into the hose? What do you use the gate for? I would remove the hard path and form a nicer path from softer materials. I like planted gravel but with dc you might not want that. I know you will want to keep costs to a minimum but I think you need to spend a bit or lower the price. Do remove the empty planters around the side and front. Have a couple of planters either side of the front door only and plant them out with winter plants. Again your garden centre will have ideas.

There seems to be a gap in the cupboard in the kitchen. Looks slightly odd. So definitely get a clock there. I would paint the bathroom too.

Not sure magnolia everywhere works. Turquoise and magnolia are not great colour combinations. Soften the look with throws and cushions. Also a coffee table. Put out magazines and maybe flowers. Look for cushions to pull the look together. Your rug is small and is insignificant so you need to add something else to bring the scheme together. You don’t have any curtains as far as I can see so it does look a bit sterile. I agree people should see through your taste and impose theirs, but often they don’t and of course they compare prices locally.

Good luck.

Hi all, just want to say thanks for your comments. Ironically on Friday afternoon we received an offer of 332k and today we have decided to accept it. Maybe it really is a case of waiting to find the right buyer

Glad you have an offer. Definitely worth taking as you now don’t need to spend 1p. Are you staying local?

midgetem · 01/11/2020 13:14

@PresentingPercy unfortunately not due to jobs. I would love to stay local, love the area we live in, good school catchments both primary and secondary, local parks / linear parks within 5 min walk, etc. Unfortunately my hubby has a new job down Dartford, and I in North London so are hoping to move north London and maintain a good work / home life balance

Well you are in catchment for my old school! Good luck with the property search.
