Kitchen layout ideas needed

We're finally sorting out a kitchen extension after 7 years of living with a crappy brown, drafty bodged job. I am excited! Grin

It's about 6m long by 5 wide. West facing. The utility shown is really kljust a cupboard for the washing machine/dryer because I'd like to have them a bit out of the way.

How should we lay out the kitchen? Is a long run plus an island the best approach? Should we put the hob (or sink?) on the island? What do I need to think about?

I don't want seating on island, and we are not a tidy family. I'd like it to be possible for one person to make a cuppa while someone else cooks with getting in the way too much.

If you search for "Blum dynamic space" you get quite a few variations of this layout, where the island is very much a workbench and storage/drink making zone along the wall. As long as people aren't going to short cut through the work area you have a big enough space to do it.

I think the key to a kitchen is good storage for everything, then even if you have spread out everywhere, it can be cleared away back into cupboards/dishwasher easily.

My first thought is that you have one dining chair that looks directly out to the garden via the bifolds. The chairs of the dining table are looking either at the kitchen or the wall. That seems a shame.

I would turn the island through 90 degrees and build the table into the island. I’ve seen some very expensive kitchens like this and it makes a lot of sense. Then, when you prep, you look out and when you dine most people can see out. Not sure if you have enough room but you’ve had to factor in a lot of circulation space and you have, in effect, only two walls. The doors on the other wall mean that you have to walk round the settee to get to the utility. Therefore I’m not sure if this is the best use of space. Personally I would lose the settee. You have lots of seating at the dining table. The lounge is next door and I’m assuming this house isn’t huge. I would Consider swapping the dining area with the settee so as least you could have a coffee table and see the garden.

My island has a veg prep sink (main double Belfast is against the wall), the hob, a second oven, 2 x built in waste bins, saucepan drawers, water softener, storage for less used electrical equipment, picnic stuff etc. Also the dining area has book storage and I have built in electric sockets.
