Buildings insurance

I'm trying to get buildings insurance sorted for a house I'm hoping to exchange on mid-November. Every broker I speak to says I need to know the locks that are in use. I'm told this is needed for buildings (not contents) insurance and is essential.

Do people normally ask the vendors to give this detail? I've not bought in a while and we sold separately (going into rented to remove the chain) and our buyers didn't ask about our locks so I've no idea how they managed to get the insurance ?!

Is it usual to need the vendor to supply details of all windows/doors locks prior to exchange for insurance purposes?

Probably a multi point locking system.
Its like that advert on TV for home insurance that takes the piss out of needing to know that but can't remember which insurer it was

Tbh if you know what door is on the house, likely a regular pvc door. It’s a multi point lock. Google will give you some guidance otherwise, but also sensible to ask if you’re really unsure.

Thanks. The house has odd looking stable doors so I'm not really sure whether it would have usual locks. I guess I'm going to have to ask the vendor, I was just surprised everyone buying a house needed to find this out before they can exchange!

Pretty normal in my opinion, the night before we exchanged a few weeks ago we had the vendor texting questions about locks, smoke alarms and some other stuff too.

Ok thanks. I will ask them then as it sounds like it's a normal question to ask!
