Im thinking once we completeNov/Dec leaving the buyers housewarming gift-maybe small plant or some tea n biccies. Is that something folk do? Maybe I’m being over the top.

Yes...a bottle of champagne.

HeeeeyDuggee · 29/10/2020 08:22

We left a bottle of champagne and a card. Plus the usual spotless house and folder full of paper work they might need.

FairfaxAikman · 29/10/2020 08:26

We didn't as the person we brought from (as FTB) didn't do it never occurred to us.

People we bought from left a bottle of fizzy wine - I was six months pregnant and DH won't touch the stuff so it went to PIL as a thank you for helping us move.

sm40 · 29/10/2020 08:29

We left a card and wine and sparkly house. We had also done a house swap so left all the notes about the house from then. We also kept a spreadsheet of paints used in all the rooms so left that too. They sent a note a few weeks later thanking us for everything. We moved into a new build so were left nothing!

GameSetMatch · 29/10/2020 08:31

No I didn’t leave them a gift, I gave them a good percentage off the house, they owe me 😂 I left a note with bin days and how things work such as the boiler but that was it. Last thing you want on moving day is looking in boxes for a vase for flowers, not everybody drink so alcohol is out. Waste of money.

whenwillthemadnessend · 29/10/2020 08:36

I would have done at the start but by the end of the process they were such arseholes I left them a leaky tap and a blocked drain.

Woods52 · 29/10/2020 08:53

We left them an artificial Xmas tree and a drawer full of baking equipment. Accidentally.

romatheroamer · 29/10/2020 09:34

Knowing what I know about our two previous sellers I'd probably have fainted with shock on moving day if they'd left a gift.
On the contrary they wanted money for everything they were leaving and the last lot left the shed full of junk.

burritofan · 29/10/2020 09:36

Bottle of Prosecco, big folder of information and local recommendations – from the best takeaways to which cats were the neighbourhood bullies, card, and the feather pendant lamp shade she’d mentioned loving after their first viewing.

Bells3032 · 29/10/2020 09:36

When I moved into my flat they sent me a new house card. I was thinking about doing the same but 18 weeks in and with them still faffing about I will not be doing very much at all beyond the bare minimum. Was debating whether to even leave them the code for bins at this point.

SnaggleBeast · 29/10/2020 09:37

I was left the dirt of the ages and filthy piss covered bathrooms when I moved in here, by otherwise seemingly nice people.

I think wine, chocolates, tea, biscuits etc are all nice ideas. I would stick to consumables though, because plants etc might not be to everyone's taste.

nnnnumpty · 29/10/2020 10:23

I've never left anything but always leave it professionally cleaned and ready to move into
Ive never had anything left for me as a present and to be honest I really wouldn't want them to leave anything, the property I buy usually needs extensive work and usually more than grubby - food or drink would be given away

echt · 29/10/2020 10:49

Yes. We were left a lovely bottle of wine on buying our house in the UK, and did the same for our buyers. Oh, and we took on a spotless house and left it the same.

Pay it forward.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 29/10/2020 10:57

Left a small bottle of Prosecco and a card to our buyers. Also, had the house professionally cleaned for them.
Arrived at our current house. Sellers were still in the process of moving out. House was filthy. No instructions left for the complicated heating system. Instead the vendor tried to show it to us whilst the movers needed us to instruct them where to put our things.

TheGhostofGlumy · 29/10/2020 10:57

Ime the very best gift is actual vacant possession. Both times I've moved the previous people have treated moving as a decluttering exercise and left loads of crap for me to dispose of Angry
I always leave a folder with all the instructions for the built in appliances, but can't say I've ever left a gift. It's a nice idea though.

BurningBenches · 29/10/2020 11:04

Yes we did, plus a little folder of info on bin days, utilities and local info plus some takeaway flyers.

The people we bought from did the same but sadly left a garage full of paint and chemicals

OlegBurov · 29/10/2020 11:04

We left a bottle.

They sent it back 🤷🏻‍♀️

SnaggleBeast · 29/10/2020 11:13

@OlegBurov

We left a bottle.

They sent it back 🤷🏻‍♀️

🤣 That's so weird! Why didn't they just give it away to someone else if they didn't want it.
popandsqueak · 29/10/2020 11:13

First time round we bought from builder and no house to sell. Bank that we got mortgage through sent us a gift shortly after moving in. This time we left nothing as our buyers were difficult, but we were lucky enough to be left number 2 in the main bathroom!! 🤢🤢

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/10/2020 11:15

I have always left wine, flowers and a card. It's just a nice thing to do I think unless they're arseholes Smile

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/10/2020 11:16

Oh and always a list of things such as when rubbish is collected, window cleaner details, that sort of thing.

HotChoc10 · 29/10/2020 11:25

Never sold a house but our sellers left us a bottle of wine and a ream of street parking permits (which I presume were just leftover but still very useful!)

However they also ripped out a kitchen cabinet and kickboard when they removed their washing machine which was a minor pain in the arse to sort out, so swings and roundabouts.

pilates · 29/10/2020 11:36

Leaving the property completely empty and clean is the best present you can give.

Jocasta2018 · 29/10/2020 11:50

I was going to leave a bottle of wine & a list of decent local builders, gardeners, etc but the buyer pissed me around for months & was an utter pain in the arse so I didn't....

kitschplease · 29/10/2020 11:52

Left a bottle of booze and a card, plus info on the neighbours (only nice things 😂)
