N19 area around Hornsey Rd - gentrification?

Hi all, I recently visited Hornsey Road and was quite impressed how it’s changed from my last visit, which was a few years ago. Spotted were some hipster coffeeshops and restaurants along the road together with some new development buildings.
Anyone lived/living here able to share any view on this area please?

N19 has improved a lot in the last ten years. Our flat comfortably increased in value. The council spent a lot of money on regenerating the area about 3 or 4 years ago, particularly around Archway Station. The Saturday Market is really nice. There are far more coffee shops around than there were 5 years ago.

Unfortunately, much as we like the area, we can't afford to stay here now. We intend to move to South East London.

It's a long way from gentrified.

Hmm. Not sure ‘gentrified’ is the word. Stroud green road is nice, and, yes, the Archway improvements are good, but specifically the N19 part of Hornsey Road? No.

Thank you! I saw a looooong queue packed with hipsters in front of a restaurant/cafe called Big Jo on that road, I was like omg gentrification lol

Hi @sugarbun - Big Jo is the exception not the rule, see this national press coverage:

Queueing hipsters are not that likely to live in N19! Just travelling for a nice night out :)

Our flat is in Stroud Green and I'm really fond of the area (we're N4) but realistically it's still a bit too stabby/muggingy to qualify as gentrified!

sugarbun · 08/12/2020 14:34

All very true, but it doesn’t matter where the queueing hipsters live, as long as they gather at wherever the hipster central is lol I reeeally wouldn’t mind stuff like Big Jo opening in my dull and boring neighbourhood. Although highly doubt that hipsters would travel all the way to Luton -_-
I find Stroud Green really nice, lucky you! I understand that it’s not all ‘manicured’ yet but it looks like it’s becoming a mini Crouch End. Patience hun x

I do wonder whether even places like Crouch End will get impacted by Covid and people leaving London. It's definitely come up in the world over the last couple of decades but will we see professional families move out now that more people can work from home?
