If you went to art school, where do you live? (And where do you want to live?)

Help me settle an argument with my DH. I think there is such a thing as an “arty area” and I think ours used to be, but now it’s a city-worker area. He thinks I’m bonkers and places are just places.

I can start it Grin: I live in Victoria Park (but not really sure where I want to live!).

Not that it matters at all, but I’m sure there’s a trend! “Arty areas”, I think, are ones that were once inexpensive and have a particular feel about them.

(Anyway maybe you all think I’m bonkers too!)

Surprised no one has mentioned Falmouth. Lots of people seem to go to art college there and then never leave the area. I love it there.

I have a real soft spot for Hastings but I fear for it. Before lockdown I though it a great survivor and a good mis of interest and potential with plenty of nice places to eat, visit, mooch around junk shops (heaven for me) We went in late summer at the end of lockdown 'proper' and the atmosphere was knife edge. The toilets were haunted by drug dealing and my 14 year old DS nearly got attacked on the promenade by a drunk. It was not a happy place. It may have been a bad day though, but we left sharpish, not even fish and chips on the beach. Regeneration can turn on a sixpence in this climate

I went to Goldsmiths and I live in Shoreditch now. It's a creative area, but most of my neighbours aren't artists, they mostly work in tech. I love it here but we might move for schools in a couple of years, which seems to mean moving to a much less interesting area sadly.
