Do surveyors inspect the attic?

We have a mid-terraced house SSTC and the buyers have instucted a surveyor; it’s a cash purchase with no mortgage required.

The loft access has a slide-away cover with pull-down loft ladders attached. We usually have to stand on a high step-stool to reach up to the loft entrance. However we’ve just realised our step-stool is here in our new house 200 miles away.

Will we have to return to our other house with a step-stool or will the surveyor have his/her own means of accessing the loft? Or don’t they usually bother? The loft is boarded, insulated and just has a single light up there and the house is about 50-55 years old.

They usually have a ladder. The ones that have been in our houses have brought their little ladder in, popped their head through the hatch to see there are no gaping holes, then closed it again.

I agree, they don't do a full inspection of an attic, just a quick look and they always have their own ladder in my experience.

haven't you got a pole with a hook on the end?

I've had surveyors take quitte a good look at attic spaces, including one that was above the stairs and I thought he'd never be able to reach it. But they usually have their own ladder, though of course you having one is helpful.

They will bring their own stepladder and shine a torch around if needs be. A basic survey may not be that thorough.
