Nuisance/harrasing neighbour

We moved into a new house during lockdown.

Our next door neighbour had garden parties multiple nights a week until after midnight for about 4-5 weeks (they were on furlough and kids not in school). We are both key workers so worked throughout. We had some contractors in for repairs and decorating of the house.

The teenage daughter of these neighbours complained to the council and said we have contractors in working all hours of the day and night, constantly. She claimed it was impacting her college work and endangering the health of her younger sister. She claimed she talked to us and we told her to go away.

We've never met this girl, our cctv shows we were out when she claimed to talk to us and she's never come to our door or left a note. Luckily the cctv also shows our contractors coming and going. Earliest 9am, latest 6pm.

Our other neighbours wrote statements to the council saying they were not disturbed and the hours of work. The council closed it.

Since then the girl has been a nightmare, she bangs on the adjoining walls frequently, mainly at night and when her dad is out she plays music so loud that you can hear it in the playground down the road. She's making 'joking' comments about feeding our dog chocolate to make him sick and breaking the lock on our gate so he runs away. We've spoke to her father but he is very dismissive and says she's 18, that's how they behave.

Ive asked for their landlord details but he said no. Land registry has the owners name but the address given is theirs and data is from 1981....

They are long term renters so have no plans to move out.

We're really stuck. Has anyone been in a similar situation and managed to resolve it?

Thanks

You could go around all the local letting and estate agents and ask if they rent out the property and explain why.

What a nightmare. I would threaten to let the police know if she threatens you again. I am so sick of these anti social people ruining peoples lives. Funny how the noise is okay when they are making it!

Google property to rent and the street name, sometimes old adverts come up, this may give you the agents name. You need to document everything that is happening and when And report to the council.

Sorry to hear this : Look to see if you can find the property listing online to find out who their agent is - how long have they been there?

Only pursue this if you rent: not worth it if you own

Yes, this ia good idea.

We have just tried try this and it is an agency that does not seem to be in business anymore. The phone number is unrecognised and there is a pet store now at the business address! All very mysterious.

Luckily the family who are next door on the other side are really lovely, they said that the difficult neighbours moved in about 5-6 years ago which may explain why the company does not operate anymore and why there is not a new advert.

We have kept a tracker just incase her behaviour does escalate!

We own the house not rent it.

The dad of this girl told us when we moved in, that he was saving up to buy a house with his girlfriend (who is his other next door neighbour), I think she owns hers currently. They are planning to buy in about 3 years when some of their kids are old enough to move out. They have 7 kids between them

@RebeccaStacey: think very carefully about what your actions would be, as having to declare a neighbour dispute would devalue your house unfortunately

I’m in the same boat and just moving to get away
