moving to addiscombe - croydon?

hello everyone, I am looking at properties in Croydon and found one we like in Coniston Road, Addiscombe.
We are not familiar with the area and was wondering what your impressions are? Also, we are two gay parents of a 15 months old boy, so it is imperative that the area is safe and welcoming with regards to a family like ours.
Many thanks everyone

pinkpanther78 and there you go again with trying to stereotype.
And in actual fact I prefer mostly A's on your list but still like Addiscombe.
There is nothing wrong with having a different perspective but the issue is your sweeping comments on the type of people who live in an area, especially when they appear to be derogatory.
You really do not paint yourself in a very good light.

I take everything I read about different areas on here with a massive pinch of salt. People have differing ideas about what safety means and what is an acceptable level of risk.

Does anyone remember the house - on one of the roads leading to Blackhorse tram - with the sliver swastika on the door? One of its little legs was ripped off but it was definitely a swastika. Then, the guy who lived two doors from me was a roofer who would every day wear a long sleeved hoodie with "Made in England" in big letters on the front of it. Which is okay...but one day when I saw him in a tank he had a massive swastika tatooed on his upper arm. I hope it was something he got a while ago but that was giving him the benefit of the doubt. (He did not live in "swastika house" - two separate people.) I moved away in early 2020 so this is pretty recent.

@pinkpanther78 is somewhat of a troll so not entirely worth continuing discussing the matter. In fact I can't believe someone with such views & opinions on class, income & life would make such a bad decision when it came to house buying location. Admitting to being a snob doesnt absolve you of wrong doing either. It's like a racist admitting to their negative damaging view point, taking ownership doesn't make the view valid.

I didn't say I'd pick addiscombe over dartmouth park, although apart from the heath dartmouth park is uninspiring. My point, is that across the majority of London you are never far away from deprevation, violence & negatives. Its total luck if you get caught up in it or not.

I'm in true middling gentrified SW postcode where 3 bed terraces with tiny gardens go for £900k minimum. Doesn't stop the muggings of teens or random shootings/stabbings occurring.

Addiscombe is fine. In fact, its one of the nicer areas in Croydon to live with property prices to match. The benefits & negatives have been listed already but the thread needing balancing after one posters repeated spam like negative posts.

I remember the house with the swastika affixed to the door, it was on Blackhorse Lane, south of the tram stop. It was eventually taken down but I saw it there from when I moved in in 2015 and it remained there for years after that. Someone suggested that they knew Addiscombe as a racist place 15 years ago but honestly there wasn't a lot of turnover in the area and some of those people still live there. It's down to everyone's individual tastes what areas will suit them, this wasn't mine. Discounting my (and many others) opinion is dismissive. I suspect the person who hates Dartmouth Park is a man. When I researched Addiscombe I came across a few very polite and generic Internet posts that said that it was lovely. Now whoever is looking into it has a bit more detail and can make a more informed decision than I did. I think my final bit of insider info - things that you wouldn't know unless you lived here - is that the vast majority of people on our street were very car orientated and did not use the high street / tram / or spend much time walking around in the area. We walked or cycled everywhere, used the high street, went into Croydon for shopping etc. If you do live there, this is the way to go about it (car) as you don't really see much of what is around you (a good thing.)

Also I don't have a fetish for gay people I am actually LGBT as stated earlier. Original poster was asking from this perspective. Other posters know of other gay people in the area or have ethnic minority friends in the area, but that is different as your friends may not have discussed or would wish to discuss their experiences from that perspective. Adding more diversity to Addiscombe would be great. It's just that not everyone wants to be a pioneer.

I'm loving the absurdity of this thread! @Kamma89 seems to have admitted that he doesn't even live in Addiscombe. Grin Bit of mansplaining going on as well. @pinkpanther78 seems to be giving an opinion albeit in an irritating (yet quite amusing) way but that's just 'spam.' I love it when men do that.

I have just bought a flat in Addiscombe and will be moving there in a month or so and have just stumbled across this thread! You have me worried now as I am definitely all 'A's in your quiz... and moving from North London. Can I ask what road you lived in? The area where my flat is seems OK and there are now a few nice cafes on Lower Addiscombe Road. The area does feel very suburban though and certainly different from South Norwood, where I was looking previously. Wish me luck - I'll report back in a year or so's time!!!
