Do I need to plaster wall after removing tiles?

I am re-doing my kitchen and getting rid of the tiles. I am keen to get an upstand matching the worktop, I did consider a backsplash but I much prefer the look of just an upstand. Hopefully DP and I can remove them ourselves, but will we need to get someone in to plaster over where they have been? Will I need to get the full wall re-plastered or just where the tiles have been? And how soon before kitchen fitters comes should I get this done? Walls seem in fine condition, will attach a pic if it helps. Never done a kitchen before so sorry if it is common sense.

It is possible you may need to plaster, or make 'good' the walls if you're looking at an upstand.
All the tiles we've removed, we've had some of the adhesive left on the walls which needed chipping off before plastering unfortunately.

I didn't bother when I redid my tiles recently and so far they're holding up!

Did you plaster only where the tiles had been or the full wall? I'm thinking they could just do where the tiles have been and blend it in to the rest of the wall but I have no experience with plastering so unsure!

Depends on what your walls are made off.
We took our tiles off last year when doing a total kitchen refurb but the walls underneath were plasterboard over breezeblock and they were totally trashed. Builder had to add in patches of new plasterboard.
If you have solid walls you might fare better

I would for a clean finish.

It really depends how easily the tiles come off, sometimes they pop off quick easily, others appear to have been moleculary combined with the wall. Any high bits of tile adhesive will need to be removed, I would fill any deep gouges too.

To remove tiles, I broke the first one up to give me a starting point and then I actually used a paint scraper and a small hammer as it was flexible enough to prise directly behind each tile rather than a chisel that tend to break up the tile.

Be aware that splinters of tiles are like tiny shards of glass, very hard and very sharp, so keep clearing the area with a dust pan and brush.

We've had to plaster the whole walls, which was our intention to start with. If it wasn't, we would have needed to because of the state of the walls.
Fingers crossed you won't need to

The kitchen tiles came off pretty easily but left lots of adhesive behind. I was skimming anyway but it would have needed it I think. My plasterer is a gift from god though!
