Blocked drain in purchasing property

Hi there
We are in the process of purchasing a house and a survey was carried out at the end of last week and we have now received the report.
There are some things raised in there which we had expected but there is a note raised re drainage which says

The property is connected to the public sewer.
The inspection chamber in the rear has a high water level and could be blocked.
It is advisable that you obtain quotations for this work before exchange of contracts so that all costs are known before you commit to the purchase.

In your opinions, would this be for us as the purchasers to remedy or for the vendors to put right?
Many thanks

I would ask them to put it right, or at least get a CCTV survey so you know what you're dealing with and negotiate on price if they aren't going to have time to deal with it. You are responsible for the sewers up to the property boundary. It could be something as similar as a blockage of wet wipes, grease or sanitary products if they've been flushing things down the loo or sink that they shouldn't have been, that would be relatively easy to clear and would probably be done at the same time as the CCTV in order to get the camera down. However, if it's blocked because of pipes being broken or collapsed then you could be looking at a more expensive and disruptive repair job, particularly if they had to excavate.

Thanks @emmathedilemma ... can you become my solicitor please?! You've helped so much more with my query than they did!!!

My buyers had this issue with my house. Along with a number of other issues identified in the survey I agreed a reduction and they have just paid for someone to come and clear it. It's pretty straightforward but they will now have a drain survey to check all is well.

there was a house i liked that was located in louth that showed a very clear blocked drain/ water drainage problems...it put us of buying as there was also a few other problems with it and we didnt have the budget to fix everything. i would ask them to either put it right or deduct a good amount of the price so that you can put it right.

Thanks for the responses. Out of interest, with the issues you had, how much did it / would it have cost to fix?
Thanks
