Hello
We are getting our kitchen and hallway tiled which is a large area. We've gone for white high gloss tiles. I wanted white grout so it blends in but our tiler has recommended not to? I'm not keen on seeing individual squares separated with a darker grout... anyone have white tiles and white grout, is it really hard to keep clean?? What would be the next best option in terms of grout colour?

TIA

White grout on a floor, particularly in a high traffic area, is going to get dirty and quickly not look white anymore. Could you use grey?

You might spend a fair bit of time cleaning cleaning glossy white floor tiles as well. And then slipping over on them when they're wet

We have grey tiles with light grey grout and the grout gets dirty (in the higher traffic areas, in front of the oven and sink etc). Every now and then you have to get on your hands and knees with a scrubbing brush. Stays looking clean for a month or so. The floor is swept daily with a vacuum robot and steam moped weekly so maybe if you steam mop daily with something stronger than water you'll be ok. I guess you'll be doing that anyway if the tiles are white?

OP just noticed you're got them in your hall way - if you are a shoes off household before you get to the hallway you might be ok?

White grout on floor tiles = motley grey grout after a year!

If you want white grout have white grout. It's your home and your taste that matters. Choose what you want to choose not what the tiler wants.

You can clean grout. White tiles are not something I'd want but it's not my house.

Having had high gloss tiles in my kitchen and dining room, I would never ever have them again. They are so difficult to keep clean and show every single mark. especially if you have a dog. I would be tempted to change the tiles rather than the grout.

Have whatever you want but would suggest a small spacer about 1-2mm, you tiler might complain as it's harder to do, but it is possible.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/10/2020 07:24

I would say spacing should relate to the size and type of a tile. Small wall tiles - small spacing 2-3 mm, large floor tiles - larger spacing 5mm.

Also if the tiles are not precise e.g. cut stone or wobbly edges it can be difficult to align them with small spacers and the end result is it looks like a bodged job.

Aw well they are down now and we've chosen white grout lol! I'll have to keep ontop of the cleaning because I don't like seeing grey grout lines. I do have a small dog too. They aren't grouted in the pic yet but hoping they will be ok!

Do let us know how they are in 6 months!

There may well be better grouts than when I last did a floor.

Thanks for returning with an update. The white grout didn't get dirty did it? Shock

You can get special grout which is designed for commercial properties and is less bobbly and easier to clean. You could try switching over to that? Our downstairs loo had white grout and I ended up ckeanig it and then using a grey grout pen on it. It looks much better now.
