Toilet seats - anyone in the know?

Anyone know anything about toilet seats? Sorry riveting post I know!

The toilet seat is broken in our new house and looking online it looks like we need to get the exact same seat due to the fixings being really weird (to me!). It's an ideal style concept and to get the same seat we need the E7917 seat and cover. Looking online they are over £100 which isn't cheap.

Anyone in the know?

As far as I know they all have the ability to fit 'standard' bog seats. Some push fit, others have through screw with nylon (shite) nut or metal butterfly nut. My Grohe ones have a very hoopy doppy looking fastening but it still just a glorified through hole fitting.

I had the same issue. Broke a loo seat that was about 10 years old, not stocked in most shops anymore. Unfortunately although it looked a standard shape, it wasn't and it also had unusual fittings. In order to replace it I ended up having to pay £120 for a new one! This was a few years ago and I am still annoyed about it, and I have promised myself that if I ever have a new loo fitted again, I will make sure it has a standard sized seat.

Hi,some Ideal Standard toilet seats are of an abysmal quality considering the price tag!
We have it (not chosen by us) and in 5 years we are at our 3th replacement.
Give them a call with the model number as they have 10 years guarantee and they should be able to replace it free of charge.

There is a toilet seat by Croydex which is supposed to fit any toilet, it is called the Flexi Fix and is sold in Screwfix.
We had one for our non standard loo, I think it was about£60.

Do not get a cheap one. Pay more and get a decent one.

You need to know if it’s top fix or bottom fix, most modern loos are top fix, even if a replacement toilet seat says it universal fit, it won’t fit if it’s top fix. I usually buy cheap loo seats & replace when I need too.

No problem! Also,I am not sure if you are aware but you can only use this model of toilet seat (soft or normal closing) on our toilets as nothing else will fit due to the shape/design.A couple of pointers: don't seat on it when close as looks sturdy but it's not (as my husband found out !!! LOL) and don't clean the seat with bleach as it will discolour to yellow immediately,if you pour bleach in the toilet remember to keep the seat open as the fumes will yellow it also...Honestly this is the most high maintenance toilet seat in world!LOL
Are you by chance in a development built by Linden?

SweetPeaPods · 23/10/2020 14:53

@windmill26 David Wilson homes. Yes to the yellow, it's horrendous!
