What’s your budget?
Where will work be based?
Do you want to live rurally or in a town setting?
School situation...primary, secondary, wanting access to independents?

Marieg10 · 20/10/2020 09:33

Which part...ie in Huddersfield itself or surrounding villages?

Some villages are lovely. In Huddersfield town itself..it's a dump

notapizzaeater · 20/10/2020 09:50

Huddersfield is a spread out place, some areas lovely, some not so. Budget ? Kids ? Where's your job going to be ?

Bluesheep8 · 20/10/2020 10:16

Need more info...

Rural/proximity to town/village?
Budget?
Transport?
Roadlinks?

MoirasRoses · 20/10/2020 10:19

I’m in Huddersfield. Some of it is a delight, some is shit. Much like anywhere really. The town centre is naff but you have Leeds & Manchester close by so I just choose to ignore it!

Where would work be? Do you need schools? Do you prefer village or suburbs? Budget?

Justpassingtime1 · 20/10/2020 11:24

Budget £180/£200k Schools not an issue.
Community spirit and medical services more important.
A bungalow with 3 beds ideal away from the centre
Thanks so much

I have replies up there. Lindley and Edgerton are nice if you want to be on Huddersfield itself (also close to M62). Good train links to Leeds and Manchester.

Bluesheep8 · 20/10/2020 12:02

There's a whole list of areas that would meet your criteria op.

Honley
Meltham
Netherton
Slaithwaite
Marsden
Off the top of my head if you want villages
Lindley is very popular, closer to Huddersfield.

notapizzaeater · 20/10/2020 12:09

Where in Huddersfield are you going to be working ? Getting from one side to the other in rush hour could take an hour

mysteryfairy · 20/10/2020 14:14

Huddersfield postcodes span a really large area with the more desirable/expensive postcodes being villages interspersed by countryside.

Some villages have far less incomers than others so might be more challenging to relocate to.

Whether you want to be close to M1 or M62 and which if any you want to be most easily accessible of Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester might influence search area.

Holmfirth HD9 is one that you might consider based on it having a biggish centre, a large medical practice and small cottage hospital and also being quite big on community stuff. I don’t think there would be a vast selection of bungalows though - a lot of the older housing stock is mill cottages which tend to have steep stairs and multiple storeys.

I used to live in Lindley until very recently & grew up there as well. It’s a delight of a village, shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, library. Outstanding school. Parks. Close to the M62 for Leeds & Manchester. You are looking at a HD3 postcode for this area. It’s not rural, it’s in the suburbs.

We’ve moved to Holmfirth. Think Last Of The Summer Wine. Other nice villages are Honley, Marsden, Slaithwaite, Netherton & Meltham. If you want bungalows, look in Netherthong (part of Holmfirth). Loads of them!

Also, Lindley is where Hudds hospital is. & it’s close to Calderdale hospital as well. Hudds & Calderdale are one trust & share services. If medical services are a must.

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2020 07:40

it’s close to Calderdale hospital as well

It might be 'close' as the crow flies but it takes a long time to get to, even from Lindley due to traffic on the bypass.

As others have said Huddersfield is a big place, and it depends which city or town you need to be near as it can take up to an hour to get to Huddersfield from some of the more lovely rural villages.

Skelmanthorpe, Denby Dale, cumberworth and Upper Denby are going towards more the Barnsley/Sheffield area but you can also get onto the motorway which is about a 20/25 minute drive away near Wakefield for easy access to Leeds and other cities.

Clayton west, scissett, flockton, Emley and Lepton (at a push) are more towards Wakefield. Hospital wise it’s easier to get to Pinderfields or Barnsley hospitals.

Marsden, Slaithwaite, Linthwaite, Golcar and Milnsbridge are more central to Huddersfield town and within reach of Manchester (road way) and the motorway at Huddersfield for the major cities.

Holmfirth, Honley and Meltham are easy reach of Manchester and about 20-30 minutes drive to Huddersfield, and about 30 minutes to Wakefield.

Places to avoid: Fartown, Sheepridge, Dalton, Waterloo, Almondbury, Lockwood, Crossland Moor, Fartown, paddock, Primerose Hill, Deighton, and Birkby.

More central nice villages are Lindley (it has shops, bars and restaurants and is near the hospital in Huddersfield, but if you need to go to Calderdale royal hospital you can be stuck in traffic for 30 minutes for what is only a 5-10 minute drive...) salendine nook (has shops) outlane (doesn’t really have many shops but is close to salendine nook) and Birchencliffe is close to Lindley.

My sil lives in Lindley. I don’t think of it as anything remotely like a village. It’s a suburb of Huddersfield, very nice, but very built up and busy. Villages, IMO are rural and quaint little places.

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2020 13:51

Yep, I would describe Lindley as a suburb of Huddersfield too.
