Heating on low

My 15 month old woke early this morning and I'm worried it is because he's cold.

I have read a few threads about people who keep heating on all night 'on low'.

I don't understand what this means as I usually just turn the heating on or off.

I have a Worcester combi boiler and thermostat.

It means keeping it on but turning the thermostat down so it kicks in and doesn’t get too cold.

Does it have a timer? If so. Have it go off late and then on early, so the temp doesn’t drop too low.

I would just make sure he is dressed warm enough/ warm enough covers

I have mine set so it kicks in at a lower temperature during "night hours".

We have ours on 24/7. We have the temperature set at 19.5 and whenever the temperature goes under that the heating kicks in. In the summer months it’s set the same but barely ever actually goes below that temperature. We have actually saved money doing this (we used to have it on a few hours in the morning and early evening) and our house is so much drier and comfortable.

I set mine to 18 at night and 20-21 during the day. If you think he's cold, an extra blanket under the sheet is a good idea.

show us a pic of your thermostat please.

Over the last 20 years or so, programmable, and later "smart" controls allow you to set different target temperatures according to time of day, day of week etc.

A well-insulated house does not drop much overnight, but you can, if you wish, set a daytime temp of, say, 21C and a night-time temp of, say, 17C, on the assumption that at night you will be swathed an blankets and duvets and not need a warm room.

Other controls allow bedrooms to be kept at a temperature different from living rooms.

We have actually saved money doing this I thought leaving it on all the time was more expensive! How much have you saved by keeping the heating on all year at this temperature?

Floralnomad · 16/10/2020 18:33

We have ours on 24/7 and the thermostat is set at 19 so if the temp in the house drops below that it comes on . During the day I just turn it up and down as needed . It rarely comes on overnight but we are SE and well insulated .

Mancala57 · 16/10/2020 19:53

We have ours set to 16. If we had it at 19 it would be on all the time.

Chumleymouse · 16/10/2020 20:18

21 is too high for me 18-19 is fine , but if the wood burner is on it can rise to 27 then we're cooking like pigs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
