Shower size - minimum needed

What is the minimum size you would expect to have a shower cubicle? What would be the 'perfectly good' size?

We have an awkward loft room and I'm trying not to compromise too much, but I can't believe that everyone 'needs' 900 x 1200 to feel comfortable to shower. What's good enough?

Thanks

Have a look at the shower tray sizes on a bath website and measure what the largest area available in your loft room to accommodate ( be mindful of head height ) then go with the larger st one that fits the space

Murinae · 15/10/2020 12:49

I think 900 x 900 is enough. Even 800x800 if your skinny! That said I would go with the largest that will fit.

I suppose I'm trying to balance room in the shower with room outside to get dry and changed in. The shower room is available to 2 bedrooms so I expect people to get dry/dressed in there.

We have a 900x900 quadrant shower cubicle and it's plenty big enough.

Aragog · 15/10/2020 13:06

We get dried in the en-suite but dressed in the bedroom.

Have you looked at wet room layouts? I much prefer a cubicle, but it would save on space?

Caspianberg · 15/10/2020 13:09

We had an 80x80 here when we moved in. It felt tiny. So I would say don’t go that small.

dalrympy · 15/10/2020 13:11

I think the smallest is 70x70 but that is tiny.

We had 70x100 and that was fine.

Blibbyblobby · 15/10/2020 13:15

We've got this 90 by 90 pent and it's plenty roomy unless you are very tall/broad, so 90 square would be fine.

Could you have a corner shower? I used to rent an apartment with a teeny tiny bathroom, and that had a corner shower to save some floor space - but it felt relatively spacious inside.

Ours is 80x80. It's manageable (and prob fine if you're slim!) but I would prefer it to be a bit bigger.

I installed a 700mm x 1000mm it was narrow but the depth was fine, 900mm is the norm but it also depends on the size of the people likely to use it, maybe a better option if space is limited is to make it a wet room then you have no tray size to worry about, obviously extra cost would need to be considered

CatherinedeBourgh · 15/10/2020 13:40

The smallest I have is 70x70 and it’s fine but we have kept it open at the front so it’s less claustrophobic. So the tray is 70x70 but you have an extra 50 in front which is tiled and no screen on that side.

In a really tiny shower room we just have a wet room, which makes it feel more spacious but actually leaves you less space available as a larger area gets wet.

That said we are all fairly slim.

Thanks all. Good insight Smile

I’ve got one it’s 80 x 80 cubicle not quadrant. It feels fine. It has an outward swinging door (like a usual door) and I think that helps....having bifold or sliding door make it feel smaller in my view.

The thing is, very small can be perfectly functional unless someone is pretty large. So bigger is nicer, but a small shower cubicle is preferable to only having 1 bathroom for instance. I’ve been in caravans where I reckon it was 70 x 70 size. It was a bit of a squeeze and not luxurious, but it did the job.

Wiaa · 15/10/2020 17:27

We've got an 800 x 800 and it's perfectly big enough for us and being slim is a distant memory Grinand dh is 6ft 4 too

Murinae · 15/10/2020 18:57

We are just about to install a 1400x80. Didn’t want a 90 as it would take up too much room. Now we have 1200x76 which feels fine so hopefully this will be ok too.

Lesson268 · 21/09/2025 03:23

has anyone tried an 800 x 1000 quadrant - i do find those a bit small, especially as the sliding doors take up more space inside the quadrant.
