Gas and electric check before exchange?

Sorry if this is stupid. I find house buying so stressful and doubt myself on everything!
When our survey on the house we are buying came back, the surveyor recommended we have a gas safety check as well as the electrics checked and for us to see the certificates before exchange. According to the surveyor who chatted to the vendors on the day, they were up for organising this.
Our solicitor has just got back to me saying that vendor’s solicitor saying it’s not for them to attend to and we should be organising it. That’s fine by me - but is that right? How do we do it? Find a contractor we trust and ask them to contact estate agent to arrange a time to do it? If problems arise is that then when we negotiate? Vendors are moving into rented very soon and were hoping to complete by end of the month - from our side there is no rush at all.

Thanks for helping a clueless buyer!

Yes, find local tradespeople (maybe ask for recommendations on local FB forum if you have one) and ask them to contact the vendors Estate Agents to organise access arrangements.

They need to allow access but yes the buyer organisers and pays and yes a good idea to do

Ok - will get on to it. I wish our solicitor had pointed this out originally - what a waste of time!

Every survey I've ever seen suggests the buyer gets a gas and electrical test done, it's standard backside covering.
