Radiator come off the wall!

My six year old stood on a radiator and it has come completely off the wall. Thankfully there was a chair in front of it so it has fallen straight down and not caused a leak.
I asked on the local facebook page and have someone coming out to have a look at reattaching it but have no idea what a reasonable charge would be - anyone any idea?

Do you live in North Cornwall? I saw a radiator off the wall post on our local FB group and wondered how it happened!
As to cost, sorry, no idea. But I hope you get it sorted soon.

If no pipes have broken isn't it just a case of filling holes, re attaching bracket to the wall and regand radiator? I wouldn'teven think to call anyone out, thats easily done yourself

Assuming just wall damage, no pipework, probably around £80 (more in expensive towns I guess). If it includes replacing bent pipes/valves, could be more in the £140 region.

The trouble with doing it yourself is that when you put everything back together, any hidden pipe damage will (sod's law) show up at that point as a drip. At which point you'll probably need a plumber anyway.

Haha no not Cornwall- about 600 miles away Smile.
I know I probably could do it myself but I would really rather get it done properly.
Thanks all.

you need a plumber but I strongly recommend reinforcing the fixing.

With hardly a shadow of doubt it will have come off because it was screwed into (pah!) plasterboard.

Most likely the plasterboard is fixed to wooden studs.

It would be better if you had either a couple of wooden battens screwed to the studs through the plasterboard, and the radiator brackets fixed them

or a sheet of 12mm or 18mm plywood screwed to the wall, into the studs, and the brackets screwed to the ply.

The ply will be smaller than the radiator so it will not show, but if you have paint to hand, you can paint it to match the wall.

Sounds sensible @PigletJohn. It is a plumber I have coming not some random bloke from Facebook (as perhaps my previous post implied Smile) so I will anticipate that- you are right about the plasterboard.
