Doubts when house exterior not first photo on Rightmove

I’ve seen a few comments here on how it can seem a bit dodgy or off-putting if an advert doesn’t lead with a shot of the exterior of the house. Then I saw this!

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-85573399.html

I saw the house when I was out for a walk this afternoon, and it took me a bit of work to track it down on-line.

Not what I expected at all!

@Peakypolly

I think the grey door has been made into the SAM shelves. If you look at the plans the upper window is above that door. I love it!
No, the grey door is the front door. The white door belongs to the house next door.

The front of the house is teeny!

Inside it is nice but a funny shape on the floor plan. I can't stand the tiles in kitchen though. They always remind me of public lavatories from when I was a child. They always had those tiles. I suppose If I had just seen front door I would not have bothered to look at the rest of the house as no curb appeal. That is probably why the chose to showcase the other rooms first. An amazing price though.

So quirky but you have to give it to the owners they have really maximised the space. They've really done a good job.

Pinkdelight3 · 12/10/2020 10:47

The bed in pic 17 isn't all that viable. Even if they sleep with the head at the door end, they still have to clamber over the rail to get in and out. The whole development is very clever and they're right to not lead with the outside, but it'd have to be a bargain to go for that over a trad house.

Joeytribbianiz · 12/10/2020 11:31

Ooh I love it! I don't think that not having the exterior as the first photo always means the front is terrible - it just means that it has another feature that is more attractive than the exterior.

We've just bought a place that is stunning on the inside and not much to write home about on the outside, and they had their most "wow" interior image as the first photo. It worked for us! After all, you'll be looking at the interior way more.

In that instance, it makes total sense to leave the front view til much later. What a difference between expectation and reality!

(Was anyone on the thread yesterday on the Leigh on Sea house which was deleted and see the OP’s response? Why were they posting?)

AgreeableEagle · 12/10/2020 15:41

That exposed brickwork in the house is just stunning. I have to say I often click on properties where the front of the house isn't the main picture just to see how dreadful it is!

It's nice to see in this case that they've done it for a different reason and the effect of it is almost as surprising as it would be if you went to see it.

Let's face it - if they put that picture first and said it was a 4 bed house everyone would assume they'd put the wrong picture or description with it!

I missed OP's response Chewbacca what did she say?

Bluntness100 · 12/10/2020 16:27

Wow, you’d not expect that. I can see why they’ve buried the front images like that, if you saw it first you’d not look any further.

Chewbecca · 12/10/2020 17:42

Joey I missed it too - I am wondering what was said but obvs can't make a TAAT

Bluntness100 · 12/10/2020 20:51

It wasn’t her house. It was a house She was thinking of offering on.

Chewbecca · 12/10/2020 20:59

Thank you!

It has an interesting sale history selling for £90k in 2005 and then just £60k in 2001. I would have thought with all the work the owners have put into it even at £160k there will not be much profit.

The market was ridiculously high 2005-08. It crashed and in this area, prices are mostly still lower than at the peak.

From RightMove’s sold page for Largs.

House Prices in Largs

«Properties in Largs had an overall average price of £123,058 over the last year.

Overall, sold prices in Largs over the last year were 7% down on the previous year and 60% down on the 2008 peak of £310,665.«
