Solid wood floors and rewiring

Has anyone had rewiring done with suspended solid wood floor?

We’ve just bought a property which has beautiful solid wood floor, laid straight onto the floor joists we have discovered! It’s all locked together tongue and groove and runs under the skirting boards too. The electrician’s verdict was if we want to rewire (we do) then the floor will definitely, unavoidably be wrecked. I’ve lifted a corner where there was a little gap so some (literal) wiggle room, and managed to lift a handful of blocks without damage as they were slightly loose anyway, but after that it’s not really budging for my measly lack of muscle & pry bar.

I’m hoping that a company that lays the stuff may have the expertise to take it up safely and relay it without too much damage. We have found a few spare pieces in a cupboard if needed but would need to be minimal breakage.

Anyone have any experience with having this kind of work done? Am thinking it would be a good opportunity to insulate under there too if it’s being lifted.

I haven't done this personally but I would definitely ring a local floor fitter and ask them if they can come and quote you to take it up and relay it / likelihood of damaging it

And also when you speak to a floor fitter make sure they have expertise in wood flooring and not just LVT. Some floor fitters reckon they can lay proper hardwood floors because they've thrown a bit of amtico LVT down but laying a wood floor is much more technical!

Thanks for the tip! We’ve emailed a few companies today so hopefully someone will respond tomorrow.
