Stick on tiles

Has anyone used stick on tiles in a kitchen that didn’t look awful and in fact look good?

I can’t decide if I’m being stupid but I have a smallish area in the kitchen that would be massively improved with tiles but I’m not sure if it will just look shit.

Anyone who has experience with them? Are there any brands you’d recommend?

Why not go proper tiles?

Hi there,
When I moved into my first flat the local housing trust removed the wooden floor and left ugly paint spattered, scratched tiles underneath.
I had no money to pay for new flooring.
After a lengthy fight with the housing trust they have me £40 to buy new flooring.

I went to the local poundshop where they had packs of wooden effect tiles (4 in a pack) for a £1.

Now I know some people will say that the stuff from the poundshop isn't worth the money and yes a few packs did have a few tiles I couldn't use but the trick I used was to use my hairdryer to heat the tile and the floor before laying the tile.
It took me a week because I worked round my daughters bedtimes but I had enough tiles to cover the frontroom, hallway and toilet.
We moved into a house after 3 years and as far as I know those tiles are still down in the flat. The next tenant put down rugs and then covered them with a carpet.
In the house we now live in I used the same tiles (different designs) in the bathroom,kitchen and toilet on the walls, again taking my time and heating the tiles and the wall before placing them. We've lived here 7 years and I only replaced the ones in the toilet last year!I
Just take your time and remember to heat them.

And if you don't like it just reheat them to remove.
Poundshop, one below, home bargains and B&M all sell them.
It is worth noting that the poundshop worked with Tommy Walsh (ground force and DIY expert) to create their DIY items and so far nothing I've brought has let me down.

That’s disappointing but thank you.

@PaulaSmith1

Why not go proper tiles?
Budgetary and skill constraints. I’m doing it myself so want something easy and not too expensive.

My friend has them in her hallway, they look really good. I was amazed when she told me they were stick on tiles.

@Jessi1972

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply - I’ll definitely have a look I’m those places. I suppose i could get just one pack to try...

I’ve got vinyl floor tiles which are sticky-back (so no need for separate glue). Is that the type you mean?

They’re OK-ish (they’re in the porch so no one really looks closely at them). The only problem is that they’re patterned and the pattern doesn’t quite match up on all the tiles....!

Merryoldgoat · 12/10/2020 17:29

@Saz12

I think they’re more like a plastic/resin that can be cut easily rather than vinyl.

There’s a Poundland nearish so I might get a pack and see...

I got stick on tiles to cover an awful bathroom when I rented; I chose the ones that looked like lots of little tiles and they were bloody fab. Didn’t peel or bubble and unless you looked closely couldn’t tell. I told landlady I would peel them off when I left, and she asked me to leave them.

I’ve seen some ropey ones though, and no idea of how they would last on a floor.

icedaisy · 12/10/2020 17:55

I got some from eBay, just checked seller was soundswholesale. I used them around a sink area in back kitchen in farmhouse, was constantly muddy and needing repainted. I got thick wipeable ones hoping they would tidy it up until next painting time. They are great and I have just left them and painted round that bit.

Merryoldgoat · 12/10/2020 18:55

Sorry if I wasn’t clear! It’s for the wall!

I will check out the eBay seller

Ooh, mine are floor ones (and Id have been better going for the normal vinyl flooring you get on a roll).
A friend has stuck-on wall ones and they look fab.

AmandaHugenkiss · 12/10/2020 19:57

Mine were wall, just to clarify!!

Jessi1972 · 12/10/2020 20:52

@Merryoldgoat

I forgot to mention grab a clean paint roller whist your there as this will help apply an even pressure when adding them to the wall.

Good luck!!

Mischance · 12/10/2020 20:54

I have them in my kitchen on a section of wall behind the hob - they look great!

Merryoldgoat · 12/10/2020 21:24

I’m going for it guys!!

And great tip about the roller 👌🏽
