New build address and couriers ARGH

I am SO sick of spending my life trying to locate parcels companies can't be bothered to deliver. We have a new build, it's not yet on sat nav, yes it's very annoying, for them too I'm sure, nothing I can do (if there is please tell me!). I am needing parcels for the new house, some couriers are capable of showing initiative and phone me, a quick 1 minute explanation and they can find us. But many of them, Hermes I'm looking at you, just don't bother to deliver and state "insufficient delivery details" and of course aren't contactable. It is doing my head in. How the feck am I supposed to get my Christmas shopping done online.

Just need to let off steam, anyone know how long a postcode takes to turn up on satnav?! It exists with the Royal Mail but doesn't come up on any map.

Does your street address show up when you type your postcode into the address section when checking out online? If it doesn’t and you have to manually add it you could try adding it here www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/update-your-address

Other than that I’d suggest using Amazon lockers or other collection locations or use a friends/relatives address and collect from them.

Thank you yes I did that just this week actually and it's showing up on there now, however, on Google maps the road isn't even on their satellite imagery and doesn't recognise the postcode at all. When they phone I give the nearest address and it's all sorted really quickly but I obviously can't give that address when ordering and even when sites allow delivery instructions 9 times out of 10 they're ignored.

I don't have family nearby it's a new area but good point about the amazon locker I will def give that a go. This particular parcel is all my blinds we are are keen to get ASAP, bigger things going on in the world I know but it's so frustrating, all they have to do is call me.

You could try using 'what3words' to pinpoint your address and see if the couriers can use that to help them find you.

OP, we had similar issues, it took years to resolve. There are still some organisations who have not paid to update their database, who say that our address doesn’t exist Waitrose . If your address is properly registered with the PO, that’s all you can do I think. Sat Nav, insurance etc databases are based in PO data. It’s packaged up into a database called AddessPoint, and renewed - not sure how often, maybe twice a year - so it’ll take a while to trickle through.

Where we live, Satnav doesn't work. We are ten miles of a reception blackspot, and couriers just have to stop and ask if they are unfamiliar with the area.

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/10/2020 23:23

Hermes lets you collect from a shop.

APeakyBlinder · 07/10/2020 23:25

You can add a missing street to google maps

Miranda15110 · 07/10/2020 23:28

I live in a remote area with two neighbours a few hundred yards away. Sat nav takes you to a row of cottages a mile away. One of our neighbours address house name is very similar to ours. When I buy things now in the notes or instructions part of the order I give clear instructions as to which house is ours. It helps 90% of the time!

LooseMooseHoose · 07/10/2020 23:53

As Peaky Blinder says, just add your location on Google Maps. It's what they're probably using anyway.

Click on the location on the map so you get the red bubble and then in settings "Add Location". It will raise a ticket for Google to investigate. My last one was done within the week

When you order something manually enter the address and put it as:

2 Windermere Rise
New Build Estate Off Harlow Road
Blackburn

Or whatever ...

Lolaloveslemonade · 08/10/2020 06:44

Write them a note in the delivery section ?
Something like:
‘If you can’t locate the house (new build) PLEASE PHONE ME on 00000000000 and I will give you directions.’

Haggie

Very good idea!

I feel your pain... We live on an Army camp. We get many of the 'we can't find your address messages) aka they couldn't be bothered/have time to go through security. Sometimes accompanied by pictures of the guardhouse. I sort of understand... They are on the clock, and don't get extra money for the complicated people.
If we need guaranteed delivery of anything we use a drop off locker.

I had this when I first moved here.

The AA were fun, they kept asking me if I was in Sanhurst, nope I'm in Wolverhampton.

Just send him to the main road and tell him to take the second left.

No I'm not in Aldershot either, or Glasgow.

When the AA man turned up he'd had no problem fining it because he was streets away.

I left instruction to ask locals for 'the new bungalows'. I've been here 20 years now and it's still referred to as 'The new bungalows'.

Sorry that doesn't help does it? It's just I feel your pain

Thanks everyone I didn't realise what a widespread issue it was, all the more reason for them not to treat it so black and white really! Thanks for all the tips!
