Blocking up unused internal doorway

Please help! I'm so clueless!

Our kitchen and dining room have been opened up but we were undecided what to do about doors! So now due to our indecision we have an unused doorway from our hall into our kitchen, which needs to be blocked up. It just looks really odd and I've been spending ages online looking at furniture to stand in front of it and then thinking about trying to fit a bookcase into it etc. But all this would purely be to hide it, and it seems really silly to be going to this much effort and expense to hide it so I'd much rather it was just gone!

I've read online that doorways can be load bearing so it's something I'd rather get done properly than attempting ourselves. Can anyone please advise on what sort of tradesperson I need to contact? Is it something I need a builder for as I'm thinking I may not get someone out for such a small job. Or could a handyman do a job like this? Or...?

Thank you.

If it has a lintel over it, it’s load bearing. Just leave the lintel in place. Otherwise get the gap filled in with block work or timber frame and plasterboard. A builder would be better. Think about new skirting boards and decoration though. They will be an additional cost.

The door frame won’t be holding the wall up!
