Have you used? Do they work?

I had a Paint and Paper Library colour (plimsoll - a true very dark blue) mixed at Valspar and thought it was decent. Took 3 coats but at less than half the price definitely worth it. Had F&B ammonite in Valspar as well, also decent.

I’ve used Johnston’s a fair bit but it was barely any cheaper than F&B If you were doing a huge whole house it might be worth it but for a few quid on one tin I’d prefer the real deal.

Funnily enough we also had paper and paint library plimsol and that was a significant saving as p&p is £££. The plimsol was a good match, as was the deep water green. The scallion however was not. So in short I think it’s a bit hit and miss.

We had our hall, stairs and landing done in a Johnstone's colour match of F&B Joa's White. We painted the samples side by side and overlapping and you honestly couldn't tell that they were two different samples. It ended up costing a fraction of F&B as we needed about 30l if I recall! Very impressed and would do it again.

Must admit I was a bit meh about Valspar until we used it, we did go for the premium one though & it has a very good flat Matt finish & covered well, maybe the cheaper options with Valspar might not cover as well.

@dontcallmelen it's the rule of Mumsnet isn't it that whatever you have found to be rubbish someone else will have nothing but praise for. Like Aldi I guess.
