Kitchen makeover

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experience of painting kitchen cupboard doors. My 23 year old kitchen is sadly showing it's age. The cabinets and work surface are still ok and the layout is good but the vinyl is starting to peel off several of the doors. The doors are non standard sizes as we had it custom built after a windfall so replacing the doors is prohibitively expensive considering they're are 14 doors and 8 drawer fronts. Has anyone had experience of peeling the vinyl off and painting the doors. Is it possible and if so what sort of paint is suitable and will give me a cleanable finish until we can save to have it replaced?

Have a look at Frenchic paint, there is a Facebook group called the Frenchic fan forum, it's brilliant. Lots of people do there kitchens and they look amazing

To replace doors altogether, there are loads of suppliers like this one:
kitchenandbedroomdoors.co.uk. They’re not prohibitively expensive for bespoke sizes, but can’t comment on quality as we’ve not ordered from them yet!

Also naked kitchens do bespoke doors, about £100 each door (!) which may be in budget or not!

I have done this for wardrobe doors. Suggested by decorator. I wasn't sure but 2 years later I have to say the results are great.
Vinyl pulled off on the front face only. Bin zinnister primer then 3 coats of water based satin paint. New knobs. Fantastic. They were bubbled all over, yellow cream and bright brass knobs. Now they are a subtle off white with bronze satin knobs.
One friend asked if they were Neptune!

Further to Saz' post above, we used that company for bespoke sized doors about 4 years ago (for wardrobes) and were very impressed. We've just ordered from them again for a different room.

I've just done this with similar doors. I used a hairdryer to 'encourage' the vinyl wrap to release it's hold. This was surprisingly easy - just went around the edges until it lifted and they peeled off easily. Then a coat of zinser primer. Followed by two coats of farrow & ball paint (eggshell). I applied this with a brush, but then used a small roller (for gloss, even though it isn't!) while the coat was still wet, as I went along.

That sounds really satisfying, peeling off the vinyl with a hairdrier😂, rather like ( as an ex teacher) picking PVA glue off my hands.
