Sonning Common and Kidmore End areas

We're considering changing our search area from Cotswolds to South Oxfordshire.
I know I like Henley on Thames, and I like Wallingford.

We've also seen some nice properties advertised in Sonning Common and Kidmore End. Can anyone tell me anything about those areas? I'd seen an old thread suggesting that "Sonning Common's reputation has improved", suggesting therefore it wasn't great.

Any info gratefully received. P.S. Don't need school or anything child related.

What would you like to know? SC is a nice big village. It's quite different to henley or Wallingford which have the Waitrose / coffee shop culture. There is very little in SC and even less in kid more end - but they do have access to pretty countryside etc. SC however is probably a third cheaper than henley (I have lived in both), and there seems to be loads on the market at the moment.

Thanks @LittleBrownBaby. We are keen on the countryside access but worried about talk of it having a bad reputation, although I honestly don't know why.
Could it have an issue with antisocial behaviour? Or other problems that might mean people don't rate it as much?
Henley is clearly very pricey but is SC much cheaper than all the surrounding villages? If so, it makes me wonder why.

@SerialRelocator sorry I didn't reply! I don't think SC has a bad reputation. There's the odd car break in and things like that, but I have never ever felt unsafe there. I would class it as very normal, normal people doing normal things. By that I mean it's not very posh and upper middle class like henley but it's not struggling like many areas. People are generally really nice and have a community spirit. There's just a real lack of stuff to do - which is why I opted for Caversham.

Sonning is the lovely village, Sonning Common is (so I'm told by Hyacinth Bouquet, aka 'posh' woman down the road) appropriately named in comparison Grin

Seriously though, it's nice but there is nothing much to do in either of them. I wouldn't say it had a problem with anti-social behaviour.

Both are dormitory villages with an easy commute to Reading. OK but a bit dull imho. As a teenager I remember feeling a bit sorry for schoolfriends who lived there.

Both had good reputations when I lived in the area. There is a nearby comp that buses a lot of kids in from surrounding areas. I realise you don't have kids but I can imagine the reputation of the area may rise and fall with that of the school? Might be worth checking out.

Thanks for all the info. Definitely not for us... We like both Waitrose and cafe culture!
