Double Glazing Help!

We are on the 2nd floor of an old department store in Oxfordshire and are looking to replace our old single glazed sash windows for UPVC( we just cannot maintain wooden ones, scaffolding etc) we have been quoted £12,000,l without scaffolding and we only have 10, not very large windows, this seems a bit excessive? Every other thread I read seems to be £5000 for 12 to 15 windows and a couple of doors thrown in for good measure. does anyone have a good recommendation for a local company they were happy with? TIA

Cant help with a recommendation but - as it is an old building there may be restrictions in what you can replace the sash windows with.

We used to have an office above a Victorian shop and had to make sure that the new windows looked the same (So the frames and bars were of the same size and shape - even thought they were no longer sash types)

Hi Paula, happily we don’t have restrictions, pne huge plus, but we are putting in sash, just upvc, others in the building have already done thisSmile

Is this based on one quote? I would get additional quotes and ask your neighbours who did theirs

Hi @MissSGMews - have you read about the new government green homes scheme? Might benefit you as double glazing to replace single glazing is one of the areas you can possibly get financial help for.

That sounds quite reasonable to me for decent uPVC sash windows, ours were around £1500 each over 10 years ago (done by previous owners so it's possible they overpaid I suppose).

Red panda fluff , I didn’t know about this but have just gone on to website and it seems I am eligible 😁. Let’s see if I can actually make that happen. Thanks for the tip!

How do you mean you don't have restrictions? Flats have no Permitted Development rights, therefore any replacement window other than like-for-like needs planning permission. That includes single glazing being changed to double glazing.
