Anyone get their energy from Bulb?

I'm thinking of switching to Bulb from Good Energy but just want to check what they're like first!

Also leaving them because they are upping my payment despite me being in credit. Moving to octopus on a similar deal but much cheaper, would happily swap back, found their smart meter app didn't work and didn't need to talk to them so no issues.

I was with Bulb until last month, had been with them several years no bother but they wanted to increase my dd by £50 so voted with my feet. Now with Octopus

GunsAndShips · 26/09/2020 21:50

Checked with DH. Electricity going up by £2, gas going down by £1.

Will stick with them!

ReviewingTheSituation · 26/09/2020 21:56

I'm very happy with them. Yes, they just emailed to say prices are going up, but twice since I've been with them (maybe 2-3 years) they have put prices down, so it goes both ways. I appreciate the transparency.
I've referred 3 or 4 people and got £50-£75 credit on my account each time, so it's easy to boost your account. Haven't needed customer services much, but when I've needed something, it's been easy and quick.

I'm switching from them aa they were going to put my DD up by £30. Never had a problem with the customer service but they already increased my DD by £30 as my account was in debit, and then wanting to increase it by another £30 despite my actual usage being a lot lower than what I was paying for. No thanks.

What are the rates with bulb? (standing charge & per KWh) as that's all that matters ultimately. Last time I checked they weren't that competitive but maybe that's changed.

StatesOfMatter · 27/09/2020 08:17

My supplier is Tonik and they have been easy to deal with - account is always upto date. Had renewal notice yesterday and looked at others (including bulb and Octopus) and Tonik was still best supplier for us.

Good to see uptick in smaller companies and green energy around.

Have referral code if people are interested in Tonik: tonikenergy.com/?referral=db4ud

StatesOfMatter · 27/09/2020 08:21

FYI my rate on Tonik is:
Electricity @ 15.63p per kWh, standing charge 22.77p per day

Gas @ 2.60p per kWh, standing charge 19.53p per day

Found the rates to be very competitive.

I've been with Octopus for 4 years now and can genuinely recommend them. I normally change supplier every year but haven't had the need to do so with Octopus because pricing is fair and transparent, I'm not tied in and communication is excellent. I've saved a lot of money and recommended them to my daughter and she's been with them for 3 years now. This is my referral code - we each get £50 if you sign up.

Happy with Bulb, very clear and transparent and online info good and easy to understand. They keep an eye on usage and beginning of the year suggested a large reduction in monthly payment so it does work both ways. I reduced by £30 only as I like to have credit for winter. Yes prices are going up but think they will everywhere. Not tied in so I am happy to stick with them.

shivermetimbers77 · 27/09/2020 09:30

I’m with Bulb. Really like them and they keep reducing my bill!

movingonup20 · 27/09/2020 09:50

Good, very good customer service when I left too, refund in 48 hours

We switched to Bulb from British Gas a couple of months ago and we're saving an absolute fortune! I had prepayment meters installed when the DCs were small and still have them, so pay more than "standard " DD prices. We were easily using over £10 pw for electricity and the same for gas, 3 bed 1900's semi, combi boiler/gch, gas cooker. We're now using less than £1/day of electricity and possibly £10 a fortnight in gas? I honestly thought that there was something wrong to start with because of the difference 🤣🤣🤣

tdm1 · 28/10/2020 12:06

Thanks, everyone! I've finally decided and just switched to bulb. If anyone wants a code, here's mine:

I like Bulb, they seem fair. We have green energy and they only put our DD up when we got an electric car. I think Tonik have sadly just gone bust.

Thesaltandthesea · 28/10/2020 12:12

I was with them for 2 years with no issues however they've recently bumped our DD up £35pcm so I've switched to eon.

Bells3032 · 28/10/2020 12:14

I was with them previously before i moved. They promised no price rises in contract and within three months i had two "unprescendented" price rises.

But their customer care and app was excellent

ChocoTrio · 28/10/2020 14:33

My folks are with Bulb. I may consider them after my commitment with Scottish Power is up.

Scottish Power cleverly went around our new build estate with a great "switch to us" deal knowing they could "snatch" some customers from the default energy supplier for the development. The default energy supplier's rates were extortionate; seems like they depended on people moving into new builds to be too busy to switch suppliers, so it wasn't too hard for Scottish Power to compete with their tariffs.

The advantage with Scottish Power is their 'freedom to move' between their various tariffs so you're on the best one possible at any one time.

NotABeliever · 28/10/2020 21:10

I was with Bulb but decided to switch. It's been a nightmare! Every month or two I get emails to adjust my direct debit payments, usually up. It's got aot more expensive too.
