Toddler proof upholstery for dining chairs

We have lovely oak chairs with fabric seat pads and after a few years of every breakfast, lunch and dinner being stamped into them they are looking awful. I steam them regularly which gets them looking fairly clean again but it's driving me mad and I'd love to be able to wipe them down daily.

I was thinking leather? Wondering if anyone's done similar and has any suggestions? Not sure if leather would be ruined with being wiped daily either?

Thanks!

Why don’t you put a towel on them? Just get something you like for the pads that are actually washable then cover them when the children sit on them. It’s easy enough to do. Leather - not a good idea I think.

Leather will be ruined by anything oily.

PU leather might work but will eventually break down from being wiped a lot I suspect.

Oilcloth?

I second putting a towel down. My tiny 3yo has a towel underneath his booster seat (too small to reach the table atm), which we just shake outside to get rid of crumbs and wash when it gets messy. Also protects the chair from getting worn out where the booster would rub against the fabric.

We bought clear plastic covers that tie on until they were old enough to not paint with their food. Before we get those we put tea towels down on the chairs each day.
