Is this acceptable from professional painter and decorator? Can it be fixed?

Hi all,

First time having wallpaper done and rather than botch it myself, got a decorator in to strip the room and fit new paper.

He's just nipped out and I've noticed this above the radiator. This was the first wall papered so he's at the other end of the room now.

I know it'll annoy me everyday because our table goes that end so will be in view rather than being behind an appliance etc.

Would you accept this... And if not, can it be easily fixed without having to redo the whole wall??

Pics hopefully attached.

Yanbu, that looks pretty bad. Not sure how easy it is to fix though.

MiniMum97 · 21/09/2020 15:21

No I would not accept that. He needs to remove and start again. I'm not sure whether he can remove just that strip or have to do the whole wall but he shouldn't have put it up like that in the first place.

MandosHatHair · 21/09/2020 15:21

Sorry, I thought this was AIBU Blush

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 21/09/2020 15:25

Yeah I would ask him to redo that bit tbh - if he has to do the whole wall that’s his fault for carrying on after he tried to bodge this bit

Stillafatknacker · 21/09/2020 15:26

Definitely not acceptable, he needs to redo it!

HasaDigaEebowai · 21/09/2020 15:28

Do you have enough to do an extra strip?

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/09/2020 15:43

Bloody hell! I wouldn’t want him to go any further.

Mmsnet101 · 21/09/2020 15:59

Thanks everyone, although I always check previous reviews /pictures etc and get multiple quotes, I always seem to get dodgy tradesmen who want to palm me off with crap work, so started to worry I was too particular!

I'll speak to him to redo it and hopefully there's enough spare to cover it.

The rest of the room looks decent from what I can see so far, fingers crossed!

He clearly tore that chunk when putting it up, & was hoping by just sticking it back down you wouldn't notice - bit of a chancer move & definitely not acceptable for a service your paying for. I'm sure he can replace just that section if there is enough roll left to match the pattern.

keepingbees · 21/09/2020 16:11

I agree he's ripped it and stuck it back down. Not acceptable at all it makes it look shabby! Tell him before he puts up any more

LizzieMacQueen · 21/09/2020 16:54

Did he or you not suggest removing the radiator first? Looks like it has ripped because he was at an awkward spot.

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/09/2020 17:22

Heck no, he should have taken that strip down and redone it. Which is what he now needs to do

TheSmallAssassin · 21/09/2020 22:01

No that's not right. Lovely wallpaper, btw. Where's that from?

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 22/09/2020 20:30

That's awful. I have wallpapered rooms (I'm not a decorator) and I wouldn't accept that from myself!
It's hard to believe that some one can move onto the next section without seeing that.
I'm not sure one piece can replace it I think if may have to be replaced from that piece onwards.
Don't let them tell you it because of the radiator/heater - it's been put up in a badly and it is wrong.

crimsonlake · 22/09/2020 20:42

I had similar when carpet fitters laid an expensive carpet in a large room. There was no way they had not realised as it was a huge rip caused by a tool they use when fitting carpets to the edge of skirting boards. I noticed as soon as they left despite the fact they had tried to disguise it with tiny remnants of carpet bits. The carpet shop came out to inspect and the carpet fitters had to personally pay for a replacement.

YellowNotRed · 23/09/2020 07:52

Can't believe he thought that was okay!

Did you ask him to re do it?

Bluesheep8 · 23/09/2020 12:36

Good Lord no! He has torn it and tried to cover it up in the hope you won't notice. Making a mistake and pointing it out is one thing but attempting to hide it is quite another.
He wouldn't be staying to finish the job here because I wouldn't trust him.

Bluesheep8 · 23/09/2020 12:38

I meant making a mistake, pointing it out and explaining what you'll do to rectify it is one thing.
