House History

Hi All,
Im looking into the history of my house, that Ive lived in for the past 30 years almost!! Its the only house Ive ever owned, bought it jointly with my husband in 1990, moved in, in January 1991, got married in August 1991,started a family in 1999, separated about 10 years ago-sorry about the life story, but Ive always felt as though this was my forever home, even though we could of bought a better, newer house within our budget!! Its a terraced house, built around 1900, give or take a couple of years either side of 1900.
Could anyone give me advice as to where to start looking??
Im more interested in the people that have lived in my house over the years, then I thought I could take it further, as in what life was like while living in my home!! Ive already posted in the Chat thread too, but if anyone can suggest another board to get more people to see & to hopefully help me, I`d be
really grateful of your help, on every level of this post

You could look on old maps co uk and see the development of street and area.

Your local FB history group might be able to help you. There might have been a street party there at the end of ww2.

Your town also might have a local history group.

I am not sure if it is possible to search an address on the 1939 register. If so you can discover who lived there then.

Old directories and old electrol roles can tell you who lived where.

Francis Firth page has some interesting photos of various areas.

Google your house and number or street.

Census register every 10 years

I did this. Went to the local library and they had directories by address dating back years. I traced back the residents of my house to when it was built in the 1880s up to the present day.

Look on the 1901, 1911 census and 1939 register (1939 register is partly redacted but you should see something). You can also try local newspapers - I found out loads about the building of my old area as it was advertised in local papers. Try the British Newspaper Archive online.

@savetti

Census register every 10 years
Which is not published til 100 years later. So limited to 1911 so far.

Go to your local county records office. They’ll help you
