Seeking recommendations for Engineered Oak Herringbone/Parquet flooring!

Hi all,

I'm after recommendations for the above, for our brand-new kitchen/diner/family room extension. Lots of kids, no pets; not a shoes-off household. Ideally something that doesn't show all the dust-balls and general detritus too much! Needs to be suitable for use over a wet underfloor heating system.

Cost - preferably under £30/sqm (will get our builder to fit it). Any tips re storing/laying/maintenance are appreciated, plus photos of it in your real-life houses Smile
TIA.

Budget will limit your choice for engineered herringbone. With keeping an eye on ebay. Flooringsuperstore etc often sell off job lots of engineered flooring for c week under rrp.

Nature's Own so some nice herringbone for around £40 m2

Thank you, will check out that brand.

We used this one which is on offer atm and almost within your budget.

I really like it in our living room although I would not be sure about it in a kitchen/family room as it is quite easily scratched and spills need wiping quickly. I think this is the case for all engineered wood unless you go for a more rustic finish.

We used this. flooring365.co.uk/sawbury-elite-engineered-grey-oak-brushed-and-oiled-click-lok-150mm-x-14-3mm-wood-flooring.html

This photo doesn’t really do it justice as it’s dark. Looks beautiful in the day light!

I heard very good things about quickstep engineeref wood floor in terms of being more resistant than other engineered wooden floors because it has more coatings and a harder layer. I suppose it depends on how bothered you are with it having scratches etc if it's in a high traffic area. I think you'll struggle to get anything within budget tbh. Maybe a wood effect tile may be a better idea?

I found this stuff:

www.woodfloorwarehouse.co.uk/diamond-white-oak-herringbone (sorry, don't know how to do clicky links) which seems perhaps too good to be true - a super-hard commercial-grade lacquer that means they can have a 0.6m wear layer, which presumably is reflected in the price..?

They also do more 'normal' ones, some under £40 sq m.

I don't mind about scuffs and scratches really - we're a 10-person household and this will be our only living space for several years to come, so the floor is gonna get trashed! But at least trashed wood is characterful, unlike trashed LVT/Karndean tiles etc.

(Don't want tiles as too hard, and either the tile or stuff will break when stuff (inevitably) gets dropped on it.)

Completely agree with trashed wood being charactful as opposed to plain awful with LVTs!
That flooring you found looks reslly good. Maybe try to Google the company or check it out on Trust pilot before buying.
Good luck!

Good idea, I shall do that 👍
