Kitchen refurb and part P electric certificate

As part of a kitchen/diner knock through we had a full kitchen refurb and some electrical changes. Nothing fancy: moving cooker hood, sockets around and adding downlights. Anyone know if we need to get the consumer unit changed to get a part P certificate? Hmm probably a long shot but just wanted to know if there are any rules around this? Thanks

We've just had similar work done and our electric an gave us the option of replacing (about £800) or upgrading (about £350) our consumer unit. Leaving it as it was apparently was not an option if we wanted to be signed off on the electrical work. We replaced ours, as knew we'd been lucky to get previous electrical work signed off without doing it and wanted it to cause no further problems in the future

Ah thank you. The electrician also said that he won't be able to provide the part P certificate without replacing the consumer unit. The problem I have is that we also have an old wired alarm box on the way, which we will need to remove if we replace the consumer unit Hmm. Getting a new system seems quite expensive so was hoping to be able to just use what we have...but equally I want the certificate in case we sell Confused

Are you in England?

I don't see that the work you described is Notifiable.

Part P does not say what you think it does.
It is unlikely that your electrician can justifiably do any work that contravenes Requirement P1 (there is no P2, P3, etc)

"Notifiable works
The installation of a new circuit
The replacement of a consumer unit
Any addition or alteration to an existing circuit in a special location"

"Special locations and installations
A room containing a bathtub or shower
A room containing a swimming pool or sauna heater."

Do you think your electrician is a member of a Competent Person Scheme?

(For entertainment purposes, I once memorised the totality of Requirements in Part P of the Building Regulations, and can still recite them. It is a lot easier than you think.)

Thanks so much PigletJohn! A very useful skill being able to menorise things like tgat! Wink I just assumed the kitchen is a special location, so will need to read the link you shared again...don't think the electrician added a circuit...
