Why do new-build homes have no bathroom windows?

Just that really. I'm sure that old homes have bathroom windows. We have a new-build 2 bed with an interior bathroom and we asked to put in a landing window to the side but were told no due to planning restrictions. The window wouldn't look into the neighbour's house. And even more ridiculously they have a side window which looks right into our back garden. So how come that was allowed but we can't have a window?!
Could it be down to never ending cost cutting or something else?

And there we have it....a window in a bathroom can now be seen as a luxury item in some smaller and cheaper flats, rather than a basic essential and standard item.

You need to buy bigger or more expensive New build to have had an outside bathroom with window factored into the planning, with the extra costs it creates for the builder in terms of taking up more space/meaning fewer units can be fitted onto the site.

Of course, if you look at older property you are far more likely to get a bathroom with window (not always but more likely) plus 2 rooms to cover kitchen, dining and sitting instead of just 1. And you won't pay a premium for new build and find that for probably 2 years or more the value is below what you paid for it if you need to sell. But you won't get help to buy.......which to be honest, for many people who could manage to buy something, somewwhere without it is a good thing too.

What will be the next squeeze to boost or maintain the profits of house builders? Will bedroom windows become a luxury too or having any inbuilt storage or a bath as well as shower? Will most new build flats essentially become studio flats and that's the norm and having a separate bedroom considered a big luxury, but sold to us S the thing people want as they so love open plan living?

Exactly.. we have to be grateful to get a window!
But then...

It's not true of all builders, I have a Bloor home window in everything bathroom and downstairs loo, plus windows in hall and on both landings. The utility room has a door not a window, but has it's own extractor

That surely must have been sold at a premium.

@BooseysMom no not particularly premium Bloor compared well price wise with other builders. The house was slightly more, 5K than the nearest comparable David Wilson, but better designed (all wardrobe type alcoves fit off the shelf fitted wardrobes, washing machine in small utility under stairs),more windows, parking that is actually convenient for house, fewer houses on estate size and we have lovely open spaces ( we as home owners each have a share in the company that owns the open spaces so we have control over costs and what actually happens).

So really good value as a new house compared to the main other local builder - all local Bloor schemes are similar, but they appear to build on sites which the density of housing that David Wilson likes to go for would never be approved on.
